Deep Trouble is one of Horizon Forbidden West’s first side quests, that asks you to help workers stuck in a mine. The side quest serves as a tutorial for swimming in the game and also goes over some of the core mechanics that you will need to take advantage of throughout the campaign.

How to Complete Deep Trouble in Horizon Forbidden West

Players will need to pick up the quest Chainscrape, and head over to the Crimson Narrows area. You will find Korvend the foreman, who will talk about how a nearby mine collapsed and how his workers are still stuck inside the flooded area.

To find the workers and free them, Aloy will need to swim and dive underwater. The mission will teach you how to dive underwater and manage your oxygen levels. Once you reach the flooded area, you will need help from the stuck miners to free them.

Follow the quest marker until you reach three Burrowers that you can take down or completely avoid by swimming past them. You can also shoot the special mushrooms to create stealth zones for you to sneak into. It is much easier to just sneak into the water and take down the machines from behind.

You will eventually run into a ladder that can be knocked down, and it will lead you into some blue crosses that take you to the miners. Once you reach the quest area, detonate the explosives with the fuses and you will successfully free the miners after taking down some machines.

We recommend taking down the machines that you face in the mission as you need all the XP you can get in the early game. The quest will reward you with two Skill Points, Oseram Artificer Face Paint and 1,260 XP. To obtain the rewards simply head back to Korvend and he will trigger the quest completion rewards menu.
