Horizon Forbidden West is a step up in every way from its predecessor and one of the new activities added to the game is the Melee Pit arena. These pits come with unique challenges that you can take part in and if you manage to beat all three, you get access to some special rewards. Here is a quick guide on how to master Melee Pits and beat the Pit Masters throughout Horizon Forbidden West.

Mastering Melee Pits in Horizon Forbidden West

Melee pits are great for testing your combat skills against human enemies and learning new moves. Unlike Horizon Zero Dawn, you will find a lot more human enemies in the game and you will need to unlock three challenges in each melee pit to get a completion.

Each pit is run by a Pit Master, and you will need to speak with them before starting a challenge. Players will typically need to complete the first two challenges that are visible in each pit before getting access to a fight with Pit Masters. The first two challenges in each pit teach you how to use new melee combat moves while the final challenge will test everything you learn in each pit.

Players can find all the Melee Pits by going through settlements. You will hear two competitors screaming in the pit indicating that you are near a melee pit. If you get to all melee pits and beat them, you will unlock a special achievement and also learn some fancy moves along the way.

Participating in Melee Pits is completely optional and can be skipped if you are not a fan of the melee combat system in the game. But if you do like fighting human enemies without using your trusty bow, learning all of the special moves from the Melee Pits is strongly recommended.
