The Bristlebacks is a side quest in Horizon Forbidden West that introduces you to the Bristleback machines. The side quest appears on the map automatically when you arrive at Chainscrape for the first time but it cannot be completed until you finish The Embassy. The mission goes through the mysterious Bristlebacks making their way to the Daunt and wreaking havoc in the area.

How to Complete The Bristlebacks in Horizon Forbidden West

To start the quest, Aloy will need to talk to the Carja Magistrate and search the west of the Quarry area to find the Bristlebacks. You will find a dead Bristleback by the waterfall in the quest area and you need to follow the trail leading back to the valley. Simply follow the quest markers and you will run into a mine with 2 Bristlebacks inside.

After taking down both the machines you will find yourself walking into a tunnel filled with smoke. As you head down the tunnel, you will find a bunch of blaze barrels lined up. Return to Javad The Willing in the tavern area in Chainscrape who will offer you more information about what’s going on with the Bristlebacks. It seems like the rebels are connected to all of this and you will need to search north of the Barren Light to find the hidden rebel camp.

Once you head to the rebel pens, kill the rebels and their machines. The quest will not complete until you kill all of them and find their machines. Use your focus to find any stragglers and it will automatically trigger the next part of the quest. Clear out the cave and return to Javad the Willing to complete the side quest.

The Bristlebacks is one of the earlier side quests in the game and you should kill all machines and human enemies during your playthrough of the mission to get some much-needed XP.
