Running the ball isn’t as flashy or as fun as a successful deep pass in Madden 24. However, just like in the actual NFL, it’s vital to a game plan. You will have a tough time winning if you eschew that side of the offense, especially against an opponent and not the CPU. Running the ball is crucial, and doing it well is a great way to ensure success.

The plays you run, among other things, go a long way toward determining the success of your drive. Run plays vary and do a lot of different things. Here are the best ones to use in Madden 24, which has Buffalo Bills star Josh Allen on the cover.

What are the best run plays in Madden 24?

The type of running plays from the best formations depends on a few things:

  • The running back you have
  • The quality of the offensive line
  • What formation the defense is in
  • The defensive players in the front seven

However, some of the best plays work pretty well regardless.Having the right playbook is helpful, too. The Philadelphia Eagles, Indianapolis Colts, and San Francisco 49ers have some of the best playbooks for running the ball. You can use them in franchise mode as well as most other areas of the game.

One of the best and most fun run plays in Madden 24 is the read option. It’s not as popular a play as it was when it first broke into the NFL, but it’s viable and a lot of fun.

This shotgun formation play involves the quarterback faking a handoff and running it, or completing the handoff. One defender, always denoted with an R over their head, is who the quarterback needs to read. If they crash to take out the running back, don’t press anything and run around the other side with the QB. If they stay put, hold the snap button and give the ball to the HB. Assuming the line blocks well, it will be a positive play.

HB Counter is another good run play in Madden NFL 24. It fakes the halfback one way before sending them to the other side for the handoff. If it works, the defense will shift to that side, leaving the other lane open with fewer defenders. A run game is dependent on fooling the defense.

Another good run play is Stretch. This is an outside run that doesn’t involve a toss, so it doesn’t require the back to start the play deeper in the backfield. If the pulling blockers do well, there should be plenty of space to run down the sideline.

Outside zone is also good. Hailing from the Philadelphia Eagles playbook, this formation brings out three wide receivers and one of the tight ends to imply a pass play, but it’s not. It’s an outside run (outside the tackle) from the opposite side the running back starts on, and it can be a good chunk play when used at the right time.

Finally, HB Dive is a tried and true run play in Madden 24. This is good for short yardage, as it is designed to run right into the heart of the defense. With strong interior linemen, this play will yield positive results more often than not. Run plays change in different playbooks, but these are common for most teams.
