Madden 24 is back with exciting new additions to the game. The hit stick, a popular method for defense, is back as well. You can once again demolish your opponent and potentially force a fumble. At worst, using this mechanic will result in a big, highlight-reel tackle. Here’s how you can use it.

How do I hit stick in Madden 24?

The right stick is the control for the hit stick in Madden 24. This is true on both Xbox and PlayStation. When you’re close enough, simply flick that stick in the direction of the ball carrier and your defender will attempt to knock them flat on the ground.

This is a high-risk play. It’s not a guaranteed tackle like the conservative tackle is. It can be a big defensive play, but if it fails, it can be a big offensive play. If you go around trying to hitstick every opposing player at every opportunity, you’re going to give up a lot of extra yards.

The best chance to do this is when there are other defensive players around. If you’re the only one with a chance to be this play’s tackler, then the risk is far too great. When the offensive player would almost immediately be surrounded by other AI defenders, there’s a better chance of preventing a big play even if you fail. Open-field situations are not ideal for the hit stick, so try a wrap tackle instead (square button/X button).

In any scenario, whether a short-yardage situation or third and long, you must time the hit stick properly. You also need to be in front of the ball carrier for the best success. When you’re close enough, flick the stick and deliver a bone crushing hit. This can be done with defensive linemen, defensive backs, and linebackers.

In Madden NFL, hit stick fumbles are so much fun to cause, but they are not easy to do. Even successfully landing the hit stick does not guarantee a tackle, depending on the ball carrier’s ratings and attributes.

Real-life opponents will also be harder to do this to than the CPU. They will juke more often and could cause a failed hit stick. The nearest defender won’t be able to make up for that, either. Be careful when you use the hit stick, but that is how you do it!
