Madden 24 is out and gamers are having an excellent time with the newest release. With every sports game, there are two sides to the game and in this case, it’s offense and defense. Offense is more straightforward and easier to do. Defense is hard, so this guide will provide some insight on what to do.

How do I play defense in Madden 24?

It’s important to know which players to use as your controlled player. You can switch to any player, from the defensive line to a linebacker and even into the secondary. However, if you’re not good with a certain position, it makes it harder to control them.

Additionally, some positions have less risks than others. A defensive lineman, particularly the edge rushers, have the easiest job: go after the quarterback. They rush and use pass rush moves to get past the offensive line, which is pretty easy to manually do.

Linebackers in zone coverage are the next easiest to control. Stay in that area and go with receivers until they get out of your zone. If you’re in man coverage, it’s harder to do, but just stay with your man all the time. The linebacking corps is usually covering running backs and tight ends, which are generally shorter routes.

Calling the right plays matters, too. If you believe it’s a run play, or it’s a clear running situation, there’s no sense in dropping seven players into zone coverage. Furthermore, zone and man coverage need to be used at the right times.

If you are facing a mobile quarterback, which a lot of opponents will use these days, it is imperative to do one of two things: play zone coverage or set a QB Spy. The QB Spy can track the quarterback if he decides to run, but zone coverage prevents the defenders from turning their back and leaving open space on the field.

Blitzing can also be useful. It is sometimes difficult to generate pressure on the quarterback with just linemen using bull rushes or swim moves. Instead, try bringing an additional defender into the backfield. At the very least, it will make things more challenging for the offense.

Playing at the right skill level, and perhaps skipping competitive Madden, is key here, too. You have to know your strengths and weaknesses. If defense is a weakness, it may be wise to avoid that or play on a lower difficulty until you get better.

Madden 24 is currently available for fans to check out on PC, both Xbox consoles, and both PlayStation consoles. The launch was in mid-August.
