A fumble can be an absolute back-breaker in Madden 24. Getting a long run only to see the ball spill onto the field is a source of many gamers’ frustration. It’s even worse when your QB drops the ball after a big hit from a defensive lineman in the pocket. Madden NFL 24 updated fumble recoveries and the physics of them to make them more realistic, but that doesn’t help you to avoid fumbling in general.

When you’re on offense, you must take care of the ball as a ball carrier. Possessions can be vital and they need to get you in the end zone. Here’s what you can do to avoid this problem.

What can I do to stop fumbling in Madden 24?

Protecting the ball is a good way to avoid fumbling in EA Sports’ Madden 24. If you see the defense coming at you and can time it right with the tackle animations, you can press R1 (PlayStation) or RB (Xbox) to protect the ball. On PC, you can hold the space bar. It slows you down, but it will secure the ball for the big hit.

Furthermore, avoiding that big hit entirely is a great way to stop fumbling. If you’re on the sideline and a defender is steaming toward you, just go out of bounds. The one or two extra yards you might get are not worth the turnover risk in pursuit of big plays. In the open field, this is not the case, but on the sidelines, it’s easy to go out.

Using running backs with strong carrying attributes is good, too. They will naturally protect the ball better than others and leave fans pleased with the result. Their teammates may not, but these backs can survive big hits and even bounce off of them and continue running with the ball.

For onside kicks, it’s easy to fumble because the recovery is no guarantee. A big hit is also very likely. You can immediately dive once you have the ball or sprint to the sideline to avoid losing the ball.  New fumble recovery animations make the act more realistic and allow players to pick up the ball without breaking stride, but it does not relieve any of the stress involved.

A city fumble is when a pile of defenders causes a fumble, and that is hard to avoid other than by avoiding crowds of defensive players. Once again, you have a better chance on the sidelines. Whistles are your best friend, and even if you do fumble out there, it could go out of bounds and the play will be blown dead.

On the other hand, a country fumble is in the open field. Conservative tackle doesn’t cause as many fumbles, either.

The CPU defensive AI, thanks to new upgrades, can change their strip tendencies and their hit stick aggression (and so can opposing coaches you’re facing online), which can cause fumbles more often. Use these resources and make the adjustments to keep your gameplay positive, score touchdowns, and prevent those maddening fumbles in Madden 24.
