Are you looking to tackle the ball carrier in Madden NFL 24? The latest football game coming to various platforms has many gameplay features that will help change the game. Don’t let the receiver’s momentum carry him to the endzone so he can score a touchdown and celebrate.

Stop him in his tracks with a strong defense. EA Sports has added more realism to the game to help you feel like you are on the field. With all new tackle animations and player ratings, things are changing for the better. Create your character and go up against plenty of other players in a strength matchup.

Make sure you switch to a player who has a high rating and dive into the opposing player to knock them down. Here is how to tackle in Madden 24, which has Buffalo Bills star Josh Allen on the cover.

How to tackle in Madden 24

There are different types of tackles you can perform in Madden 24. To tackle, use the following button commands depending on your console type:

  • Playstation 5:
    • Hold X for a wrap tackle
    • Press Square for an aggressive dive tackle
  • Xbox Series X/S:
    • Hold A for a wrap tackle
    • Press X for an aggressive dive tackle

On both consoles, you can flick the right stick up or down to perform a hit stick or a cut stick. This is a high risk high reward tackle, though. You can easily miss, but you can also hit so hard it causes a fumble. Use your discretion in open field situations, as the wrong tackle can result in a big play for the other squad on offense.

EA Sports changed the way tackling works in Madden 24 based on its tackle advantage algorithm tech. The conservative tackle is now a wrap tackle. There are even new scoop tackles, which are also called high-impact form tackles, that will lift a player off of their feet. Smaller defenders will now go for the legs of bigger ball carriers to take them down.

Catch tackles have also been improved as well as ball swats. New animations allow for more diverse forms of tackles. The new defender advantage formula alters tackles more dynamically based on defender size. Smaller defenders will now go for the legs to take out larger opponents. The Big Man Wrap is a new tackle which can allow the defensive linemen, such as Vita Vea or Aaron Donald, push the runners backwards. The smarter AI can do this, and so can you.

Other new tackles include the breakdown tackle, and one where smaller defenders instinctively go for the ball carrier’s legs to take him down.

On top of all of this, you can even hit a receiver in stride. There is a greater differentiation of tackle types than ever before thanks to FieldSENSE and SAPIEN technology among other additions. This is important for franchise mode, Superstar mode, Face of the Franchise (last-gen), Madden Ultimate Team, and more.
