Soviet engineering did not produce many technological advances, but there is one name known all over the world: Kalashnikov. But more about him later. Let’s dive into the best Kastov-74 build for Modern Warfare 2.

This small but mighty assault rifle is compact, easy to handle, and deadly in most hands. While there weren’t any attachments in the beta, we could experiment with, and this gun does just fine in its vanilla configuration.

It’s got a reasonable rate of fire, good stopping power, and good aim-down-sight speed. It even has decent range despite being compact enough to fit in a briefcase.

As we mentioned earlier, the Kastov-74 didn’t allow for attachments during the beta. And that’s okay because this gun is excellent all on its own. However, when the game finally does release, we can imagine some attachments we’d like to rock on this rifle.
  • A silencer. Though we typically avoid silencers on our rifles, there’s something about this one we can’t shake. Running around the map undetected, flanking, and sneaking up on enemies sounds like the perfect approach with a silenced Kastov at your side.
  • A foregrip. We’d love to steady our aim as the Kastov tends to jump a bit during full auto-firing.
  • A laser. This is a rare AR – one that could be decent for firing from the hip.
  • An extended magazine. Thirty rounds are grand and all, but a drum packing fifty has us imagining this could be the Russian version of the Lachmann Sub.
  • A red dot sight. The standard iron sights are fine but pretty narrow, making target acquisition a bit of a chore.

Best Kastov-74 Strategy for Modern Warfare 2

This is a run-and-gun type weapon. Yeah, you could slap a beefy barrel and stock on there, but why not just use an AK-47, then?

This compact little brother to the AK is meant to be brought up close and personal with the enemy. Be sure to use dead silence and pack extra tacticals so you can drop smoke or flash grenades as you run around like some modern-day berserker.

The original design (the Kastov is based on the AK74 SU) was meant for special forces, helicopter and tank crews, as well as rear echelon personnel like military police or border guards.

Bridging the gap between a submachine gun and an assault rifle, this has close combat baked right into its DNA as a weapon. Use it accordingly.
