Call of Duty Modern Warfare III has a weird way of naming their newest editions and can lead to questions like can you upgrade MW3 Cross Gen edition to Vault edition? Well, we’ve done our research and have the answer, but it’s a little more complicated than it sounds.

Yes, you can upgrade the Cross-Gen edition to the Vault Edition for MW3 so long as the platform is the same. As confirmed by Activision in their blog post, you are able to make the upgrade to the Vault Edition of the game. Here’s how you can upgrade on each platform:
- PlayStation: Upgrade directly through the Call of Duty in-game store or the platform store where you purchased the Cross-Gen Digital Edition, for $30 USD or your regional equivalent.
- Xbox: Cancel your Cross-Gen Digital Edition preorder, then purchase the Vault Edition through the Call of Duty in-game store, the Call of Duty website, or the platform store.
- Battle.net: Upgrade directly through the Call of Duty in-game store or the platform store where you purchased the Standard Edition, for $30 USD or your regional equivalent.
- Steam: Upgrade directly through the Call of Duty in-game store or the platform store where you purchased the Standard Edition, for $30 USD or your regional equivalent.
If you’ve purchased the Cross-Gen bundle for consoles, this will work so you can also still have access to the game on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, or Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. Obviously, this is not for PC users, just console gamers.
Can you upgrade Physical Edition to Vault Edition of MW3?
No, sadly if you preordered a physical copy of MW3, you won’t be able to upgrade to the Vault Edition of the game. The only way you’ll be able to get the Vault Edition is if you order an entire other copy of the game.
There are plenty of reasons to upgrade to the Vault Edition for CoD fans, from early access to the open beta and campaign early access, two Weapon Vaults with weapon blueprints, the BlackCell Battle Pass with 50 tier skips, special Weapon Vault designs, and special operator skins from the Ghost and Soap Operator Pack and Nemesis Operator Pack.
