One of the biggest questions that fans are asking with the new series of Modern Warfare games is “is Modern Warfare 3 (2023) a reboot?” It’s a fair question because there was a lot of speculation on what the sequel to Modern Warfare 2 (2022) would be, some reports were that MW3 (2023) wouldn’t be a sequel to MW2 (2022), and that Activision wasn’t going to reveal any Call of Duty game in 2024.

Sledgehammer games is making the sequel to MW2 and is continuing the franchise by taking on one of the biggest names in the trilogy, Modern Warfare III, and trying to make it a better version than the original Modern Warfare Trilogy.

So will this new Modern Warfare be a reboot or just a remaster? Read below to find out, but also make sure you’re aware of any zombies mode, release dates, or special editions that will come with this new game.

Is Modern Warfare 3 (2023) a reboot of the original MW3 (2011)?

Yes, Modern Warfare 3 (2023) is a reboot of MW3 (2011) from the original series albeit not in the way most people would think a reboot of the series would be like. It’s kind of like a completely new story, as some characters survive who were originally dead, and so it appears this new villain and General Shepherd may need to do a lot more to take down Soap and Price.

The original prequel to MW2 set up a much bleaker storyline than this reboot did, but it may be to ensure players that things wouldn’t be happening exactly how they were before. This is good; it makes this MWIII’s launch feel different from the MW3 made by Infinity Ward.

We expect that the multiplayer will be improved and may include references to the original. The trailers and leaks seem to point to new maps but also to older ones. We also expect Warzone to get a whole new upgrade for players since each year’s Call of Duty seems to take over Warzone. Fans will also see the appearance of the Russian villain Makarov.

Hopefully, this will be a much more beloved version of MW3.
