Playing defense in NBA 2K24 can be easier said than done. Perimeter defense in particular is hard and there aren’t a lot of players who are good at that aspect of the game. Once they get past the guards, it can often be a free run to the hoop. That is, unless you have someone ready to block the shot. Here’s how to do that.

How can I block shots in NBA 2K24?
When you’re trying to block a shot, you need to press the triangle button on PlayStation or the Y button on Xbox to jump up and swat the shot. There is no way to guarantee a block, but those are the controls for doing so.
The player you are using to try and swat a shot matters tremendously in NBA 2K24. It’s generally advisable if your defender is taller than the person shooting the ball. That’s not a requirement, but it does make blocking shots easier.
Timing is key as well. If you time it incorrectly, you will likely commit a foul. The type of shot they are taking is important, too. If it’s a dunk, it’s going to be pretty hard to defend. If it’s an open shot outside the paint, it’s going to be even more difficult to get a block.
Along with timing, you can’t get fooled. If you fall for pump fakes, not only will you not alter the shot, but you may not even contest it at all. You might even commit a foul and let them get to the free throw line. Players can pump fake pretty much anything, even layups, so be aware and time it right.
Positioning impacts the types of blocks you can pull off. There are these types:
- Straight-up jump block
- Swat block
- Chase-down block
- Spike block
Naturally, these can’t be done from the same spot. You have to come from behind to get a chase-down. You need to be well above the player and the shot to spike it downward and so on.
Blocking during gameplay can happen in all modes. If you’re on the hardwood, you can pull of a block. That includes MyCAREER, MyTEAM, MyNBA, The W, and more.
