ProPlay is brand new to NBA 2K24. The latest in realism technology is coming when 2K24 releases in September. One of the biggest issues that sports gaming has struggled to cope with is the lack of realism in player movements. Dribble moves, in particular, are difficult to replicate perfectly. ProPlay is the next evolution of that. Here’s what you need to know.

What does ProPlay do in NBA 2K24?
ProPlay is the latest gaming engine that 2K Sports is implementing in NBA 2K24. It’s an advanced engine that improves the realism of player movements. Below is some NBA footage, with the new ProPlay gameplay right beside it.
Kevin Durant’s movements are almost perfectly mimicked in the gameplay. Previous iterations of the game lacked the authenticity that NBA 2K24, which features Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant on the cover, seems to have. Instead of a fixed animation for a dribble move, everything is more fluid. This includes jumpshots, layups, dunks, free throws, rebounds, and pretty much all new animations. This groundbreaking new technology is only available for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, the new-gen consoles.
Motion capture, or mo-cap, was previously used to animate players. This was a useful technology that helped your favorite players look and move like they ordinarily would. However, that technology has become outdated. It will still be used, just in conjunction with ProPlay. ProPlay used real-time scenarios instead of just athletes doing dribble moves in an empty gym.
Gameplay director Mike Wang promises that players can experience Kevin Durant’s unique jumpshot and free throw form, Steph Curry’s explosive dribble moves and array of off-dribble jumpers, Nikola Jokić’s methodical moves and feathery touch around the rim in all the genuine authenticity. It is said to be a generational leap for game development.
Takeovers and Takeover Abilities come with ProPlay as well. In real-time, a takeover can be decided. It often occurs when a steal happens and a player takes over the game. Adrenaline Boosts were introduced in 2K23 and added the ability to get really hot. This will return, but even better with ProPlay.
Layup timing, dribble combos, off-ball movements, shot timing, directional steals, authentic movements, and more will be added as sincere gameplay enhancements. Better responsiveness, defender AI, smart play shooting, and more are now possible thanks to the new technology. ProPlay swaps unnatural technology to bring in peak performance in an authentic game.
ProPlay will affect MyTeam, MyCareer, MyNBA, and all other game modes in 2K24. It is not restricted to the Black Mamba Edition or any other versions of the game. Basketball fans can get some extremely realistic on-court NBA action as soon as 2K24 releases.
