Fans are finally getting what they want with the new PvE story missions coming with Overwatch 2: Invasion. The new season, Season 6, is bringing them to the game.
While there’s plenty of other new content, such as a new battle pass and a new support hero available as soon as Season 6 starts, story missions are the biggest draw. Ever since Overwatch 2 was announced, players have been begging for more story content.
But, are the new story missions free to play? We’ve got all the details you could want on the new story missions coming to Overwatch 2.
Are the story missions free to play in Overwatch 2?
No, sadly the story missions are not free to play. They will come at a base cost of $15 USD to unlock. You can unlock them in two different ways:
- Purchase the Invasion Bundle
- Purchase the Ultimate Invasion Bundle
Once either of these bundles is purchased, you gain permanent access to the story missions for the season and in the future. The Ultimate Invasion Bundle comes at a higher cost of $40 USD, but you’ll get access to more content with it, including the Null Sector Premium Battle Pass.
It’s currently unknown if Blizzard intends to charge more to unlock future story missions.
What’s in the story missions in Overwatch 2?
The story missions focus on the Null Sector uprising happening across the globe, and it’s up to both new and former Overwatch agents to join forces to take them down in three different cities; Rio de Janeiro, Toronto, and Gothenburg. This in-depth storyline is intended to breathe new life into the game with this PvE hero mode.
The story missions are also how you can unlock the new hero Sojourn permanently, adding her to your roster to play in the core modes of the game. This playable hero has been teased since the original Overwatch, and fans are excited to be able to play her.
The action-packed missions and plenty more content are coming this August to Overwatch 2 with the arrival of Invasion, which you can check out on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.
