Whilst the wait for Baldur’s Gate 3 seems absolutely endless, with their predicted 2023 release, that still means we have one long year to wait. However, Magic the Gathering have come along to make that wait at least a little more tolerable. One of the most recent set releases comes in the form of the Battle for Baldur’s Gate set. Dungeons & Dragons storytelling meets Magic’s most social format in a new crossover multiplayer experience for the ages.
This particular set seems to revolve around the Commander format, turning every Commander game into an adventure with iconic D&D characters and spells. Furthermore, this set revisits some old and new faces from the Baldur’s Gate franchise, with various characters from the upcoming Baldur’s Gate 3 game and others from the previous two.
You can also check out Halsin, the First Druid of the Emerald Grove, and how Minthara, the Drow Paladin, is doing in the Baldur’s Gate 3 release. Now, if you’re looking for a different type of combat, check out all the Baldur’s Gate 3 companions coming to Magic the Gathering.
All Baldur’s Gate 3 companion cards coming to Magic the Gathering
A number of the Battle for Baldur’s Gate cards are reprints of the previous D&D based set, Adventures in the Forgotten Realms. But more notably are the Baldur’s Gate specific characters, and among some of the Legendary Creatures are a few recognizable faces. Each of the companions thus far has their own creature card as well as an accompanying card.
Lae’Zel’s Cards
The infamously stubborn and grumpy Githyanki has her own creature card and instant.
Gale’s Cards
Our favourite wizard with a notorious obsession with Mystra, Goddess of Magic, also has his own card and accompanying Instant.
Wyll’s Cards
Warlock under servitude to the fiendess Mizora, Wyll is also among the set.
Astarion’s Cards
Our favorite sassy vampire, the half-elf Rogue Astarion, is also among the companions to have his own cards.
Shadowheart’s Card
The high elf Trickster Cleric of Shar has also been invited to the MTG party, but with a single card and no accompanying Instant.
Karlach’s Card
The eternal debate on Karlach’s class has finally been solved, thanks to the MTG. Karlach is now undoubtedly a barbarian!
Minsc & Boo
The fan-favourite duo are back, and this time they’re Planeswalkers, with Minsc being a human Ranger, with his miniature giant space hamster.
Although we will anxiously continue to await new and upcoming updates about the long awaited Baldur’s Gate 3, perhaps this addition of content will smooth the wait out just a little. This new set is releasing June 10th.
