Many players have been enjoying the release of MW2, so it’s not a shock for folks to wonder if the game is crossplay or cross-platform at all.

Crossplay is an important feature these days, and a huge number of games include the feature. Even all the recent COD releases have relied on the feature for shorter queue times before matches.

So does MW 2 have the same crossplay support we have seen from previous titles?

Is Call of Duty MW2 Crossplay?

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is indeed crossplay on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. Activision confirmed this in a preview they gave to Forbes before the game came out.

Being crossplay guarantees that the game will be cross-platform as well since there wouldn’t be any way to play with others without cross-platform play. Since the previous recent entries in the series have been cross-platform and cross-gen, it’s not much of a shock that MW2 has gone crossplay and cross-platform as well.

We also learned in this preview that Warzone 2 will share the same fate. So you are able to gear up against your friends no matter what platform of choice they happen to have and will have a similar experience with Warzone 2 when it drops in a few weeks.

MW2 Crossplay Problems

Since the game launched on 28 October 2022, users have reported several issues with Crossplay in Modern Warfare 2. Only PlayStation players can disable crossplay, while Xbox and PC players must play with/against users on other platforms.

It seems like this problem is simply a bug and will almost certainly be fixed in a subsequent update to the game. There isn’t any good reason why the ability to turn off crossplay would have been removed for Xbox and PC players.

Right now, we’re just waiting for news from Activision on this problem. With any luck, it’ll be high up the priority list for a good bug fix. Either way, keep your eyes glued to our article for updates when they come.

Is Modern Warfare 2 Cross gen?

It shouldn’t be a shock, but MW2 is cross-gen. With PS5s still being hard to get hold of, and many gamers unable to afford new systems, it just made sense for Activision to release the game on older hardware too. You can currently get the game on PS4/PS5, Xbox Series X/Xbox One, and PC.

Some players showed concern about the last-gen versions of the game. Are last-gen versions forcing restrictions on next-gen versions of the game? Activision like money, so it is easy to think they will make the game as accessible as possible, but they also did some stunning things with how the game looks, so it mostly appears to have worked out for the best in the end.

You can even get your hands on a cross-gen bundle that will give you access to the game on both Xbox One and Xbox Series X, so if you’re considering upgrading in the near future, that might be a legitimate option to choose.
