Update: The Dead by Daylight 5.2.0 update is now live. You can find the patch notes here.

On September 2, 2021, the developers behind dead by daylight, Behaviour Interactive, did their DBD Developer Update for September. The Dead by Daylight developer update for September went into detail on some of the changes they have been trying. These changes include the inclusions of SBMM in DBD, along with ranked and cenobite changes.

SBMM DBD

Skill based matchmaking (sbmm dbd) is coming for the bdb daylight 5.2.0 patch. Skill based matchmaking is a multiplayer server system that matches players much closer to each other’s skill. However, the sbmm dbd inclusion is proving controversial. Some fans love it because they can play with players who are not that progressed on their characters or are equally skilled to create fair matches. Meanwhile, some players don’t like it, as they don’t get their pop off games that we all know we live when they happen. The DBD Developer Update for September confirmed that skill based matchmaking is staying and is remaining for testing in the dbd public test build. It will launch alongside the DBD Patch 5.2.0 sometime soon.

One of the major reasons why the developers view SBMM in dbd is good because of balance. Matchmaking become smooch fairer, and the developers can better inform balance changes, especially when you can compare data sets between different skill levels.

Cenobite DBD 5.2.0 Patch

Cenobite is getting a few changes on the dbd 5.2.0 PTB. Cenbote’s chains spawn much more consistently, allowing survivors to work out what Cenobite is up to much clearly. Moreso, Cenobite will always spawn three chains during a hunt, so it makes him much more consistent. Furthermore, a few dbd Cenobite bugs have been fixed, including chains spawning in obstacles and spawning later if there are no valid spawn points.

One of the other big changes affects the survivors interacting with the Lament Configuration. The devs want players to deal with the puzzle when they want to, but the player carrying the Lament will need to deal with The new changes mean that if the person holding the box neglects it for too long, a chain hunt will start for them only. If you intend on picking the Manet up, you better complete it. You can read more on the DBD Developer Update for Cenobite here.

Ranked Changes DBD

Ranks are becoming entirely new grades with the inclusion of the SBMM in dbd. The new ranks feature all-new icons, ranging from Ash to Iridescent, along with numbers to separate divisions. If you’re familiar with League of Legends, it will feel very familiar to you. You can increase your grade by earning pips just like before, though there’s now a limit to how many pips you can lose.

Every month, grades reset to Ash IV (the lowest grade), and you’ll receive up to 250,000 Bloodpoints depending on how far you’ve managed to climb. The pips and blood points reset on the 13th of every month, so you can push your rank up to that point. You’ll be rewarded for each role separately, so playing both sides can reap double the rewards.

DBD 5.2.0 Patch Notes PTR

So, from what we can tell, DBD Patch 5.2.0 will feature SBMM in dbd, Cenobite, and the new ranked system. The new patch is going to be very big when it drops sometime in the very near future. If there are any more DBD Developer Updates for September, we will update the article.
