The Google Pixel Tablet release date is coming! The new Google tablet was revealed at the Google I/O 2023 event on the 10th May, along with some other products and a lot of software news. The actual Google tablet release date is on the 20th June, 2023, but you can pre order it now to secure yours early (or from here if you’re in the UK).

The previous Tablet – Google Pixel Slate, was a bit underwhelming back when it was released, and Google decided to discontinue production of their lines of tablets a year later. Google’s device development has come on tenfold in recent years and now the new range looks very interesting indeed.

The Pixel Tablet, along with the new Google Pixel 7a phone, upcoming Google Pixel Fold, the already out Pixel buds, and Google Pixel watch, completes the entire gadget ecosystem, and the Google Pixel Tablet will work seamlessly with these other devices. Read below for all the details.

Google Pixel Tablet release date

*UPDATE* The Google Pixel Tablet launch date was 10th May 2023 at the Google I/O 2023 event. The Google Pixel Tablet pre order date was the 11th May, 2023, and finally, the Google Pixel Tablet release date (when the product will actually hit the shelves/pre-orders will be sent out for delivery) is on the 20th June 2023.

We had been hearing all sorts about the Google Pixel Tablet ahead of the big reveal at I/O. The only official news prior was that device was arriving in 2024. An early Amazon Japan listing did provide us with a much clearly launch date ahead of the event though. Now that the Pixel Tablet is fully confirmed and we know when you can get a hold of one, rumors and leaks can be left behind.

The Google Pixel Tablet was launched worldwide. On this Google Support page, they list that the upcoming Android tablet will be available directly from the Google Store in the following countries: Australia, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, United Kingdom, and United States.

Google Pixel Tablet specs confirmed

The Google Pixel Tablet is available in three colors: Rose, Hazel, and Porcelain. The specifications are as follows:

  • CPU/SoC: Tensor G2
  • RAM: 8GB LPDDR5
  • Display: 10.95″ LCD, 276ppi
  • Resolution: 2560×1600, 60Hz
  • Brightness: 500 nits (max)
  • Storage: 128GB / 256GB
  • Battery: 26Wh, (approx 12 hours use)
  • Connectivity: Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi 6
  • Audio: 4 stereo speakers, no

Google Pixel Tablet camera

Leaker Kamila Wojciechowska came out with a tweet thread discussing info they claim to have obtained regarding the cameras on Google Pixel devices, including the Google Pixel tablet. Based on this leak, we looked forward to one 8MP camera on the front and a second on the rear of the device.

Well, this particular leak proved to be correct. The Google Pixel Tablet does indeed feature a 8MP wide camera on the back and the front of the device, with the exact same specs. This camera is capable of recording at 1080p @ 30fps.

Google Pixel stylus support

Specs also reveal that the Pixel supports any USI 2.0 stylus pens, which is a universal standard for this kind of tech. Google’s Pixel Tablet doesn’t actually come with a stylus with the device as standard, so a USI 2.0 stylus will have to be bought separately. A recent hint from Kamila (yet again) suggests that Google are releasing a stylus separately; this tweet is particularly blunt. She also hints at a keyboard for Google Pixel in a follow-up tweet.

Google Pixel Tablet resolution & refresh rate

As always, a higher resolution will look and feel superb. We would have loved to see a refresh rate of 120Hz with the new display, but alas, the refresh rate has been revealed to be 60Hz. This, alongside the confirmed 2560×1600 resolution means the device is actually a 16:10 aspect ratio, which can seen as a close equivalent to 1440p if you’re used to 16:9 displays. The 2560×1600 resolution is also named as WQXGA (Wide Quad XGA).

Google Pixel Tablet smart home capabilities

One way Google are advertising the Pixel Tablet is through it’s usage in a smart home, especially when placed in it’s Charging Speak Dock. You’ll be able to use your Pixel Tablet for checking up smart home features such as temperature or doorbell with Google Assistant on board. This new tablet will act as a central hub to your home in order to keep track of your other smart home devices while in ‘hub mode’ while docked. Whether you want to use it as a smart home controller, quickly changing settings, or simply as a digital photo frame for the time being is up to you (you can display personal Google photos at your will on the just-under 11-inch display). This makes it a perfect addition to the home, especially if you don’t already have a Google Nest Hub.

Google Pixel Tablet price

The Google Pixel Tablet price is $499/£599 for the starting model (with 128GB of storage). It come with an included Charging Speaker Dock (which costs $129/£139 if you want to buy an additional one individually).

The 256GB versions costs and additional $100/£100 (so $499/£599).

Is there a Pixel Tablet Pro?

One question which may be on your mind is the prospect of a Pixel Tablet Pro. As we’ve seen with the recent Google Pixel phones – namely the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7, there have been Pro versions to come in and provide a high-end model. Since we expect the same for the Pixel 8, will we see a Pixel Tablet Pro? Well, there’s definitely been an interesting development regarding the Pixel Tablet Pro, but it does result in even more questions to ponder.

One rumor seems to almost confirm that the Pixel Tablet Pro is in the works. 9to5Google noticed that ‘tangorpro’ shows up in some Android 13 code, with the regular tablet being codenamed ‘tangor’ of course. The same account shows that it has also been shortened to ‘t6’ and ‘t6pro’ similarly.

Right now though there is nothing official confirming it’s existence. Following the official launch of the Pixel Tablet, there was no announcement of a Pro model. However, these leaks did provide some promising insights into what could be in the pipeline. We’ll have to wait and see how this pans out – maybe the Pro would make an even better gaming tablet? Only time will tell for now.

Will the Google Pixel Tablet be OLED?

To put this briefly, no. The Google Pixel Tablet specs have already been revealed, and the device instead features an LCD display. This kind of panel may be a disappointment for some, especially since rivals such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8+ / S8 Ultra feature AMOLED displays. An interesting note though is that Apple is yet to release their own OLED tablet, with the first OLED iPad slated for a 2024 release according to OLED-info.

The lack of an OLED panel may point towards a refreshed version in future, but this is pure speculation for now. As we mentioned, early rumors pointed towards a separate Pro model being in the works, and this could be the answer to the OLED tablet market. For the time being though, nothing official has been announced by Google.
