It looks like you’ll be able to play a Resident Evil and Final Fantasy crossover in the form of a new mod. Fan-favorite character Aerith from Final Fantasy VII has crossed genres – ending up as a mod in Resident Evil 3.
The Aerith Gainsborough mod for Resident Evil 3 replaces the main character Jill Valentine with Aerith. Aerith is dressed like a modern STARS officer but is armed with a gun and her signature little red jacket. If Aerith is your favorite character from Final Fantasy VII, then you’ll definitely want to try out this new mod.
It may be a little bizarre to see Aerith killing zombies at first if you’re a fan of both games. But it certainly adds something new if you’ve been looking for the perfect excuse to sink into a Resident Evil 3 replay lately.
Mod Still in Beta with Regular Updates
This mod can be picked up from Nexus Mods and is still technically in beta so there may still be some bugs to watch out for. The main bugs seem to be some clipping and rigging issues. However, it looks like this mod will be frequently updated so hopefully, we’ll see those bugs ironed out in no time.
The first few updates were simply updating and debugging the mod with the mod developer on Nexus Mods saying “I’ll try my best to fix the bugs ASAP”. New variants and add-ons are also expected in the coming months.
A recent update managed to add in Aerith’s hairstyle. This one is a standalone mod which can presumably be added into Resident Evil 3 without installing the Aerith mod itself. So, if you wanted to give Jill a bit of a makeover, you can add in a brand new hairstyle for her.
