We’re doing a RTX 4080 Super review roundup to give you a summary of what some of biggest and most-trusted outlets are saying about the new Super-refreshed GPU. So far, the reviews look rather positive, though there isn’t a whole lot to talk about with this graphics card given its similar performance to the non-Super 4080. Regardless, the price drop is the biggest plus for many.

The RTX 4080 Super release time is here and we’ve been looking at what reviewers have had to say. Usually reviews arrive the day before the launch, but a last-minute pushback means that reviews have been published at the same time as availability goes live. That doesn’t give you much time to check out benchmarks if you want to snap one up quickly.

RTX 4080 Super review roundup

We’ve looked towards some of our favorite reviewers to get a grasp on how well the RTX 4080 Super is rated right now. These are great places to look if you’re interested in benchmarks and stats-driven ratings, or if you just want a good look at the GPU.

Tom’s Hardware

Tom’s Hardware jump right in with a pretty modest 3.5/5 star rating. They correctly note that the Super is really not much faster than the non-Super card at all. While the price tag makes it $200 cheaper than the original, they say that $999 is still expensive. They wish that it was upgraded to the same AD102 chip as the RTX 4090, but this is not to be. The same-old 16GB VRAM is also seen as a disappointment, as the 4080 Super was a good opportunity to jump up to 20GB, bridging the gap to the 4090’s 24GB.

TechRadar

TechRadar are next in line and they are a little more generous with a 4.5/5 star rating. They also note that the card is still expensive despite the price cut, but they’re happen with the improvements over the 4080 to score it highly, even if it is just a 1.4% performance gain on average. The slick black finish of the Founders Edition card is also complimented, the same you’ll find on the 4070 Super.

TechPowerUp

TechPowerUp is a great website to head to if you’re interested in detailed benchmarks, especially for gaming. They praise the RTX 4080 Super for its 4K performance and new & improved price tag. However, the marginal performance increase over the original doesn’t really warrant the ‘Super’ tag in many respects. It also remains a power-hungry component, having an effect on the fan volume. Averaging over 25 games, they found just a 1.5% performance uplift compared to the 4080.

PCMag

PCMag gives a well-presented review with plenty of benchmarks to back it up, coming in with a solid 4.5/5 star rating. Much of their criticism is echoed by other reviews, pointing out that $999 is still a hefty price to pay. They do say that the thermal results are decent, though it can still run quite warm under heavy load – nothing too unusual though. The RTX 4080 Super maxes out what AD103 is capable of, only squeezing out a few extra frames in many cases.

Are the RTX 4080 Super reviews any good?

RTX 4080 Super reviews are in and scores aren’t too shabby in our opinion. Before you go ahead and take a look at our where to buy RTX 4080 Super page and pick one up, it’s always good to see how the new GPU is rated. So far we see some 4.5/5 star ratings. Tom’s Hardware was less impressed with just 3.5/5 stars, but they make good arguments for why this is.

One of the biggest problems for the non-Super 4080 was the price – it just didn’t match the kind of performance you’d expect and the 4090 was surprisingly better value. Now that Nvidia have amended that for the 4080 Super, many feel like they’re just fixing a problem that didn’t need to exist in the first place given the very small performance hike.

Why should I look at RTX 4080 Super reviews?

It’s important that you have a good browse of RTX 4080 Super reviews if you want an informed opinion of the new Nvidia graphics card. For us, stats are the biggest thing to look out for and some of our favorite reviewers do some extensive testing on this GPU.

If you’re looking for a high-end graphics card for gaming, 4K and 1440p benchmarks are easy to come by. 1080p too if you’re interested, but this card is overkill for that kind of resolution, so it won’t really get utilized properly.
