As if we needed another massive RPG to play right now, Cyberpunk is coming back better than ever with a brand new update, Patch 2.0. This update basically rebuilds the Cyberpunk progression system from the ground up and because of this, CDPR has recommended that you start a new save to take advantage of the new content added in patch 2.0. The Cyberpunk 2.0 patch is so big that the devs recommend starting a new game.

There have been so many changes made to Cyberpunk over the past 3 years, but nothing compares to the monolithic overhaul that Patch 2.0 is bringing. If you’re interested, we have a full description of the update for your viewing pleasure.

CD Projekt RED has suggested starting a new save when Patch 2.0 drops for Cyberpunk 2077

The new Cyberpunk 2.0 patch is so big that the developers actually recommended that players start a new game upon receiving the latest patch.

It’s all well and good that the developers have brought out a free patch that is so game-changing that they recommend you start the game over to reap the full benefits of the update. But what if you don’t want to? What if you’ve poured hundreds of hours into a save and you don’t want to start again?

The update that CDPR made on it’s Twitter explained that you can in fact continue your current save, but they recommend starting fresh. Now, recently Starfield pulled one over on me and I lost hours of progress and I was fuming. This isn’t really the same thing, but losing progress sucks no matter the cause.

This update is going to be massive, but is it big enough to warrant us all turning over our save game files and losing all of our progression? I know that it’s not required but the devs at CD Projekt RED definitely recommended it for a reason.

With that being said, Cyberpunk has been improved constantly since its release nearly 3 years ago, and this update is indeed free. So is it really too big of a hit that we have to turn over some progression in exchange for a better game? If you think about it, it’s kind of like Cyberpunk 2077 has been in Early Access this whole time, and now the game is finally here.

It cost as much as a full game mind you, but that was 3 years ago. What do you think? are you excited about the new update? or are you fearful of losing all your current progression?
