What is the likelihood of iPhone 15 Touch ID support?
The iPhone 8 was the last iPhone to feature the Touch ID, and now, a piece of news is circling the internet about the comeback of the Touch ID on the iPhone 15.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has always been a reliable source for Apple-related news. According to Mark Gurman, Apple has tested an under-display version of the Touch ID, which was designed for an iPhone. However, this new version of Touch ID is not expected to feature on the iPhone 15.
Adding the Touch ID alongside the Face ID on the iPhone could be useful in certain scenarios when the Face ID is not working as intended. Additionally, the Touch ID would provide an extra layer of security.
The news emerged last year when Gurman and The Wall Street Journal revealed that Apple was testing an under-screen fingerprint authentication technology for a few iPhone models. However, Apple decided not to pursue this feature, at least now.
Next comes the famed Apple analyst Ming-Chi-Kuo, who said in September 2021 that Apple would launch at least one new iPhone model with an under-screen fingerprint scanner by the end in 2024. This report coincides with the launch of the iPhone 15 series. However, Kuo hasn’t shared any further information on the subject. In Kuo’s words, “We predict that the new 2H23 iPhone will support under-display fingerprint.”
However, at this moment, Kuo’s initial statement could be outdated, or Apple could just change its mind, especially in light of Gurman’s latest update. It is definitely possible that iPhone 15 could just come with the same Face ID feature as its predecessors and forgo Touch ID support.
