How We Choose

Choosing the best HyperX headsets was trickier than narrowing down our selections from various manufacturers, but we started by trying to find a pair to suit different needs. As most models from HyperX are pretty affordable, most of these recommendations probably enter most people’s budgets, but regardless, we still feature a budget option.

Every one of our headset recommendations is compatible with PC, with a few offering console support. We make our overall decision based on sound quality, reviews, and of course, hands-on testing to ensure you end up with the best headset possible.

How We Test

We buy the best headsets out there and rigorously test them over months at a time. We then compare each model with closely priced alternatives from a variety of manufacturers to see how well each headset performs in-game, with music, and other media.

Things To Consider

Whether you are looking for the best gaming headsets out there for PC or just a casual pair for your PS4, there are a few things to consider before buying.

A gaming headset can improve your overall gaming experience and in some cases offer incredible immersion with whatever title you are playing. Finding the best HyperX headset for your money can be quite tricky but the factors below should assist you in this process.

Sound Quality

With HyperX headsets, the general audio reproduction is quite good, and they are an excellent affordable option for gaming. Audio quality is highly important when it comes to gaming headsets, and with headphones, you get what you pay for.

While HyperX mostly stays away from the top end of the market, they still offer a good level of audio quality for the price.

Microphone Quality

The quality of a microphone isn’t a major factor with gaming headsets as none are generally considered to be broadcast quality for streaming. That being said, the quality of a microphone can be crucial at top-level esports or in games where crystal clear communication is key.

If you were looking to start streaming or producing content where quality is important, then a standalone microphone and dedicated pair of headphones is probably the way to go.

Surround Sound

A few of our HyperX gaming headset selections feature virtual 7.1 surround sound, so what does this mean? Well, a standard pair of stereo headphones will use volume to help you determine where an enemy player is, but virtual surround sound works a bit differently.

While using sound, virtual surround also tiny delays in the off ear with a few other processing tricks, tricking the brain into hearing in multiple directions. Surround sound isn’t massively important, but it certainly makes gaming a more immersive experience and can assist with those positional cues in a competitive game.

Comfort

When gamers are going to be wearing a headset for hours at a time, comfort is a highly important factor to consider. Comfort can be hard to come by with affordable mid-tier headsets thanks to cheaper materials and underwhelming designs. Despite this, HyperX offers a certain level of quality, even with its budget range, that genuinely provides a decent experience compared to the competition.

Wired Vs Wireless HyperX Headsets

When you are looking for the best HyperX gaming headset, do you go with wired or wireless? Well, this trade-off for convenience depends on your individual needs, but a wireless pair will almost always cost more than the wired version.

HyperX is known for great value, and this stands true with its wireless headsets too. While some wireless gaming headsets come with heaps of features, HyperX has dialed that down, giving gamers more bang for their buck in areas that matter.

It is important to know that most wireless headphones will, at some point, have a little interference. Furthermore, they need to be charged. Despite the drawbacks, a wireless pair offers unparalleled convenience, and if you can justify the extra money for this feature, then it is well worth going for.

Wired, on the other hand, offer consistent levels of performance without any chance of a dip or loss of connection. Most esports professionals still favor the old reliable wired headsets to ensure they never miss a beat. Regardless of which you choose, the audio and microphone quality is generally similar.

Isolation

Isolation is an area with gaming headsets, in general, that falls short. Some manufacturers try to isolate ambient noise with a seal; others may just use plain dampening. The level of isolation varies quite dramatically from one model to the next, and it usually collates with the price. Isolation is very important if you live in a noisy household or if you can hear the outside world vividly from your computer.

PROS
  • Great stereo imaging
  • Qi wireless charging
  • 7.1 surround sound
  • Detachable microphone
  • Very comfortable
CONS
  • PC and PS4 compatible only

The HyperX Cloud Flight S gaming headset is the brand’s leading pair of wireless headphones. Like all their headset models, the Flights are simple in appearance yet offer exceptional performance and features for the price.

Compatible with PC and PS4, this wireless pair is great for gaming, with well-balanced sound, solid mic performance, and high levels of comfort. While these don’t feel as durable as the Cloud II’s, they are a well-built pair, and the simplistic design is one I like.  These connect wirelessly with a 2.4GHz connection and can operate up to 20 meters away, giving users with various setups a bit of flexibility. Furthermore, these can be charged with QI wireless charging, keeping your setup almost entirely cable-free (at least appearing to be).

The bass performance on the Flight S headset was quite good both for music and gaming, without overpowering those mid-range sounds. The audio reproduction, again, was good, and overall I think most would be pleasantly surprised with the level of quality these offer.

With good sound, a great microphone, and a plethora of features for a reasonable price, these are arguably one of HyperX’s best ever gaming headsets and are well worth your consideration.

HyperX Cloud Revolver S Gaming Headset
HyperX Revolver S
Type Over-ear
Frequency range 12-28,000 Hz
Wireless? No
Noise-cancelling No
Enclosure Closed-back
PROS
  • Very comfortable
  • Durable steel frame
  • Great sound and mic quality
  • Multi-platform compatibility
  • 7.1 surround sound
CONS
  • Poor isolation

The HyperX Revolver S gaming headset is one of the most well-balanced overall pairs the brand offers. These are great for the casual users and hardcore gamers, with some decent features thrown in too.

The design on these could be considered a little loud, but it is actually a rather visually appealing one. These are a bit bulky, but its definitely something you can get used to. The earcups design gives these away as a “gaming” pair of headphones, but its a design choice I’m a fan of. These are a little heavy, but you get used to them very quickly. The microphone can be completely removed like a lot of HyperX models, and its something I prefer to a retractable mic.

HyperX generally makes very comfortable headsets, and the Revolver S is no different. The self-adjusting headband goers a long way in supporting many different head shapes and sizes and counteracts the weight of the headphones nicely. The large ear cups surround your ears and create a nice seal with those plush memory foam earcups, giving you a product that is supremely comfortable. The clamping force isn’t too intrusive either, making these a great pair for extended gaming sessions.

The audio reproduction is good on these, and they feature good bass with a balanced mid-range. These are closed-back and block some background noise, but the isolation like al lot of gaming headsets is poor, meaning they wouldn’t be ideal for a noisy commute to work. Overall, the sound is satisfying enough that a casual neutral listener would be happy enough with this model.

With surround sound, great build quality and excellent comfort, the Revolver S gaming headset is one for casual users and hardcore gamers alike.

The Best Wired Runner Up
HyperX Cloud II Gaming Headset
HyperX CloudII
Type Over-ear

PROS
  • Great bass
  • Excellent build quality
  • Multi-platform compatibility
  • 7.1 surround sound
  • Detachable microphone
  • Supremely comfortable
CONS
  • A bit bulky
  • Not the best for isolation

The HyperX Cloud 2 gaming headset is a quality made, above-average pair and comes with a nice amount of features to satisfy most.

This gaming headset is multi-platform compatible, and while the audio performance isn’t the best from HyperX here, the mixture of features and the low price make these a very appealing gaming headset. For music, the Cloud2’s aren’t too bad, with good enough bass and a balanced mid-range, making the overall listening experience quite pleasant. That being said, you would certainly opt for something of higher-quality if music was factoring into your decision.

On the plus side, these are superb for gaming and that is largely down to enough isolation to keep you happy (albeit not the best)  and a high-performing detachable boom mic. These will also remain comfortable for hours, making them excellent for those long gaming sessions. These feature memory foam earpads and ship with an extra set of velour ear pads for you to use at your discretion. Furthermore, the headband and adjustable cups make this comfortable for a range of different head shapes and sizes.

These may not offer the best audio detail out there, but with an excellent price to performance, surround sound, and quality mic, these are a great mid-level option for gamers.

The Comfiest HyperX Gaming Headset
HyperX Cloud Alpha S Gaming Headset
HyperX Alpha S
Type Over-ear
Frequency range 13-27,000 Hz
Wireless? No
Noise-cancelling No
Enclosure Closed-back
PROS
  • Quality build
  • Very comfortable
  • 7.1 surround sound
  • Good audio reproduction
CONS
  • Poor isolation

The HyperX Cloud Alpha S gaming headset is another great pair of wired headphones for gaming. These feature good sound and microphone performance, with a durable build quality to match.

The Cloud Alpha S headset is similarly looking to the HyperX Cloud IIs, with arched hinges providing ear cup movement and giving the headset its distinctive appearance. The earcups are slightly different from Cloud II’s but with the same loudly colored logos and matching frame. This pair sports a light metallic blue and black combination of color, which is very pleasing on the eye. The two-tone color scheme isn’t for everyone, and they do give off a “gamer” vibe with their appearance. Like most HyperX headsets, the microphone is detachable, which is always a positive for the casual user.

These are arguably one of HyperX’s most comfortable gaming headsets the brand currently offers. These are well padded, with plush memory foam earcups and soft to the touch breathable leatherette. Furthermore, the leatherette acts against sweating and helps keep these comfortable for hours on end. These have the same overall fit as the Cloud IIs. However, the clamp is less noticeable with these.

For gaming, these are above average, with a good level of sound quality that makes these pleasant enough for neutral listening. While the detail can get lost with these at times, the bass is reasonable for the price. The closed-back design doesn’t leak like some of the others on this list, but the overall isolation is still poor, meaning you’ll want to keep these with your gaming setup.

The HyperX Cloud Alpha S pair are the comfiest pair from HyperX, but the sound isn’t quite as good as the Revolver S model.

The Best Budget HyperX Gaming Headset
HyperX Cloud Stinger Gaming Headset
hyperx cloud stinger headset
Type Over-ear
Frequency range 18-23,000 Hz
Wireless? No
Noise-cancelling No
Enclosure Closed-back
PROS
  • Very good build quality
  • Lightweight
  • Comfortable
  • Affordable
CONS
  • Low on features
  • Mic is not detachable

The HyperX Cloud Stinger gaming headset is one of the best budget pairs on the market. Aside from high build quality, the audio reproduction is above average, and the microphone performs excellently for the price.

The Cloud Stinger’s are quite simplistic in their design, with the only flourish of color being an inobtrusive HyperX logo on the earcups. These are not a flash pair of headphones by any stretch and would really only be considered “fit for purpose.” I’m a fan of this generic design, as it’s been executed well, and while the materials are a little cheap, they are an attractive pair. The mic isn’t detachable, making these a little bulky overall, but they don’t weigh very much.

Forgetting the price for a moment, the HyperX Cloud Stinger’s yet again shown how well the brand conquers comfort. There is a lot of padding for such an inexpensive pair of headphones with the headband being sufficiently padded and the ear cups following suit. The ear cups themselves have a good amount of room for the ears, and the clamp isn’t too tight on the head, leaving these as a pretty comfy pair overall that can be used even in those extended gaming sessions.

The microphone is great on these, so teammates should hear you loud and clear at all times. The audio reproduction is ok, and these aren’t too bad for music listening, with enough bass to keep you happy and generally speaking, well-balanced sound. The isolation is poor, but that’s not the biggest deal for a pair of gaming headphones.

A solid gaming headset for a very reasonable price here from HyperX, the Cloud Stingers are a budget option for all.

Final Word

So there you have the best HyperX gaming headsets on the market. The HyperX Flight S offers the most features for your money, but the Revolver S pair is the best for gaming. Which you go for is down to your own personal preference, but we have tried to cover all budgets and needs from the HyperX brand. It is worth noting that the older models of these versions, such as the none “S” Revolver and Flight and the CloudX’s, are all still really good options that you can grab for less. Regardless of which you pick, you can always count on HyperX for comfort and value.
