Download Amazon Alexa app
The first step is to download the Amazon Alexa app. Or if you already have it downloaded, simply open the app on your smartphone or tablet.

Go to devices
At the bottom of the app, switch to the ‘Devices’ tab.

Echo & Alexa
Here, most of you should choose the ‘Echo & Alexa’ option, unless you want to set up another device such as lights.

You will now be asked which device you want to set up. Tap the device that you want to connect to Wi-Fi.

Check status
Once you have your device of choice selected, tapping ‘Status’ will let you configure further settings such as Wi-Fi network and Bluetooth.

Set WiFi network
Next to ‘Wi-Fi network’, you can see the ‘Change’ or ‘Add’ button. Here, you can start to connect your Alexa device to a Wi-Fi network of your choice.

Your Alexa-compatible device should have an Action button. Usually this is indicated by a button with a simple ‘dot’ symbol on top.

Select your device
Once you’ve held the action button down for long enough, you should be notified that your Alexa device is in setup mode.
Now you can click ‘continue’ and select your device from the ‘Available devices’ list.

Connect to WiFi network
Finally, you can now connect to your Wi-Fi network. Select the network of your choice, then you will have to enter the Wi-Fi password to finish.
Remember to tap ‘Connect’ at the bottom once the credentials are in. Then give the device a little bit of time to connect, it isn’t always an instant connection.
How to connect Alexa to WiFi without the Amazon Alexa app
If you don’t wish to use the Amazon Alexa app, or just don’t have a device like a smartphone or tablet capable of running it right now, you can always use a web browser to hook up an Alexa device to your Wi-Fi network of choice.
- Go to alexa.amazon.com. You may be prompted to scan a QR code to instead use the app, but you should be able to click ‘Go the previous version of alexa.amazon.com’ at the top of the page. Click this.
- Log in to your Amazon account. You can also create a new account here if needed.
- Open settings. This is located on the sidebar on the left of the website.
- Set up a new device. At the top of the settings page, you can click the ‘Set up a new device’ option.
- Choose a device to set up. Here you’ll be required to choose the kind of device you have, such as an Amazon Echo. After selecting this, simply click ‘Continue’.
- Plug in device & wait for orange light. You’ll be prompted to plug your device into a power outlet. There should be a blue light on your device, this will change to orange after a minute. You may have to hold the Action button to complete this step. Once the light is orange, click ‘Continue’ again.
- Connect your computer to your device. Go to the Wi-Fi settings on your computer (bottom right on Windows 10, top right on Mac, Settings > Wi-Fi on tablet/phone) and connect to the network with the ‘Amazon-XXX’ format. Once connected, continue on to the next step within your browser.
- Connect to your Wi-Fi network. You should now see a list of Wi-Fi networks, select the one you wish to connect your Alexa device to and enter the Wi-Fi password. Then, simply wait. It shouldn’t take long to connect.
