Baldur’s Gate 3 has been an excellent game for many, however, with any game, sometimes players experience bugs and glitches that make playing these games a bit harder, and it seems some players have discovered a glitch in the game that causes the game not to save or has a syncing problem. This is obviously something that players will not want to happen.

Larian Studios has done a fantastic job at making sure Baldur’s Gate 3 was a beautiful experience for its excited fans, giving it beautiful graphics that remind us of those from Elder Scrolls or The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Baldur’s Gate 3‘s full game also supports cross-saves, allowing the save-file to be able to be accessed on other devices.

Sadly, Baldur’s Gate 3 files from the early access version don’t transfer over to the full game, so some people might think their save file isn’t loading when in reality, it was deleted in the place of the full game.

If you are having an issue with the full version of BG3, our solution is below.

How to fix can’t save bug on Baldur’s Gate 3

The way cloud saves work is to allow other platforms, such as Xbox Series X|S to PS5 or even PC to be able to access various game saves. This means that the player profiles will be accessible through the local files. Having the game backed up will definitely save players from having to start over on quests, recreate dragons, or reread dialogue all over again.

To try and attempt to fix this issue, below are some steps players take to use until the next update comes out for Baldur’s Gate 3. One of these issues below might solve the bug that makes the game unable to load or save. The steps below apply to PC players

  1. Quit the game if it is still running in the background.
  2. Right-click on Baldur’s Gate 3 from inside the Steam Library selection
  3. Click Properties.
  4. Go to General
  5. Turn off Steam Cloud
  6. Head over to the Steam folder for Baldur’s Gate 3
    • Normally located in C:\Users\myUser\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\BaldursGate3
  7. Delete it.
  8. Now try to restart Baldur’s Gate 3.

Something else that players have expressed helped them with their issue is disabling the cross-save feature altogether, this won’t delete older saves but will help to fix the issue. So far, it isn’t known if this is also a problem with console users, but perhaps try checking the personal settings, if there is a new version of the game or a major update, make use of the game-saving its last autosave, or close out the game completely. If on PC, it could also be helpful to check the graphics drivers as well.

Having trouble with saves is one of the most frustrating bug types a gamer can experience, but it is one we can all work toward fixing together until a new patch is released.
