The Devilfoil Mask is more than something to cover your face. The Devilfoil Mask has a hidden magic effect that only comes into play when you are near another person wearing one of the masks. When you are within 20 meters of another character wearing a Devilfoil Mask, you get the following effects:
- Strength (STR) increases by one point
- Intelligence (INT), Wisdom (WIS), and Charisma (CHA), all decrease by one point
As you can see, the mask secretly affects your stats and the stats of your party members. The more people wearing a Devilfoil Mask, the greater the effect.
If your whole party is wearing Devilfoil Masks, you will get a bonus of three points to your strength and a negative of three points to your intelligence, wisdom, and charisma scores. This makes the Devilfoil Mask more of a hindrance than anything beneficial unless you are playing a character whose primary focus is strength above all else, like a Fighter.
You can also craft Orthon Explosives using the Devilfoil Mask with Dammon at the Last Light Inn, in the Shadow-cursed Lands during Act II if you don’t want to wear it. However, it is only during that time limit. While there are other ways to get Orthon Explosives, which can be used in battle, this is a good way to use the mask if you don’t plan on wearing it.
Where to find the Devilfoil Mask in Baldur’s Gate 3
There is a total of four Devilfoil Masks that you can find throughout Baldur’s Gate 3 but you won’t find them in Emerald Grove. Instead, you need to go to the Underdark. Specifically, you need to take the boat to the campsite to Grymforge. Once there, go to where the cave-in is by the Adamantine Forge. Here, you will find the masks in the following locations.
- On the table in the main hall
- On the altar in the room with the Merregon Legionnaire
- One is dropped by the Legionnaire
- Next to the skeleton by the cave-in
Each of these masks is identical, so if you only want one you can pick it up from any of these locations. None of these masks have any differences in stats either, so if you want the hidden magic effect and don’t want to greaten the effect, you can just find a single one at any of the locations listed above. These are the only four in the game, however, so if you end up using them all to craft, there won’t be anymore.
