Baldur’s Gate 3 from Larian Studios is finally here for both gamers and Dungeons & Dragons fans. You’ll be able to choose your own story and dialogue and live your own journey through the roll of the dice. Of course, assisting you will be your companions, Gale, Shadowheart, or Astarion, to help turn the tide of battle.

Once you’ve created your character, chosen your class, and gotten started, there’s plenty to explore. You’ll use dice rolls to determine your luck while out in the Forgotten Realms, and those rolls will either bring you favor and bring you misfortune.

But what is the Karmic Dice in Baldur’s Gate 3? That’s what we’re here to tell you.

What is Karmic Dice feature in Baldur’s Gate 3?

The Karmic Dice is an optional feature in Baldur’s Gate 3 that balances out good and bad dice rolls in the dice system. If you’ve been on failure or success streaks with dice, the Karmic Dice will eventually even it out so the rolls are balanced.

Dice rolls in Baldur’s Gate 3 determine a lot of factors, such as whether an attack hits, whether you get critical hits, Perception checks, if your persuasion works, and other factors. These rolls can either be good or bad depending on what you roll. If your attack hits a few times in a row, you are having good attack rolls. Karmic Dice will alter the game so that your bad rolls even out with your good ones.

Can you turn off Karmic Dice?

Yes, Karmic Dice can be turned off. Karmic Dice is turned on by default, but many players actually recommend you disable it even if you’re new to TTRPG-inspired games like Baldur’s Gate 3. You can do that by entering the game’s settings:

  • Open the Main Menu
  • Navigate to the Gameplay Tab
  • Scroll down to User Options
  • Uncheck the Karmic Dice checkbox

This will turn off Karmic Dice so that all your rolls are completely random. If you get a good roll or are getting consecutive successes, your next roll won’t be affected by the whims of RNG.

Many veterans of the previous games recommend disabling the feature as it can cause a full party wipe due to increasing the damage taken from enemies during combat encounters. Party members will take more damage, and you’ll be left taking heavier hits.
