Though you may think the Withers is just another undead creature, he will come in handy when you need some recruit some Hirelings for combat. But first, follow this guide to find out the answer to “What is the worth of a single mortal life” in Baldur’s Gate 3. 

What is the answer to Wither’s question in Baldur’s Gate 3?

The curious undead creature will then ask a very strange question “What is the worth of a single mortal life?” after which, you will be given a few dialogue options. The answer is that there is no right or wrong answer to this question. If you don’t attack the Wither, each answer will have a passable outcome. However, when the undead entity asks you this question a second time, he will react more favorably to questions one and four.

When Withers asks you this question a second time, you will receive six new questions. Depending on your Race, you could also receive a seventh question. 

1. No one life is worth more than any other. We are equal.
2. That depends on a person’s deeds.
3. Life’s only value is as currency. Doesn’t matter to me otherwise.
4. Each life is of infinite value and merits sacrificing everything for.
5. The only life that matters is mine.
6. Depends on the mortal.
7. (Elf) Some mortals live much longer than others. I can’t compare them. 

Within the dialogue above, you may also find a few selfish answers. However, if you choose answers one and four, the Withers will be satisfied with your response. Regardless of how you answer Wither’s question, it will not affect your playthrough. Once you have interacted with the undead NPC, he can still be found at your campsite. At the campsite, players can use the Withers’ respec ability and recruit Hirelings. 

You can find Withers in the Dank Crypt once you explore the Overgrown Ruins. Once you make your way to the Chapel Entrance east of the Roadside Cliffs, you can find him at the far end of the Crypt. Beat the various bandits and enter the locked door. Then, you will find him in a richly adorned Sarcophagus in Baldur’s Gate 3.
