How often does Call of Duty get a new game?

The Call of Duty franchise normally gets a new release about once a year. While this can vary, one game released a year is standard, as this pattern has kept up since 2005. This is because the franchise is produced by three different companies, that interchange on releases:

• Treyarch
• Infinity Ward
• Sledgehammer Games

More producers mean the games are able to come out on a more regular basis, as each producer works on their own title. The titles then release while the two other companies work on their games, all while being published by Activision.

For example, Treyarch released Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War in 2020, then Sledgehammer Games released Call of Duty: Vanguard in 2021, and finally Infinity Ward released Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II in 2022.

Originally, Infinity Ward was the only producer who worked on Call of Duty, but starting with Call of Duty 3 in 2006, Treyarch joined in on the multiplayer shooter series, followed by Sledgehammer Games developing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 in 2011.

With three developers working on their own games, they are able to follow a schedule and release a new title for the Call of Duty franchise once a year. Each game has its own modes, weapons, and DLC that come with them, all while keeping the Call of Duty experiences consistent across consoles.

For the latest entry in the franchise, CoD: MW2, Season 4 was recently released, with a whole pack bundle worth of content, including a new battle pass, a new battle map, new weapon blueprints, and more. This steady stream of additional content keeps fans hooked while the franchise works for the next full premium release.
