CSGO was known for its ability to run on basically any hardware, whether it’s integrated graphics, laptops, or old GPUs. But that might be changing no, the Esports giant is getting a major overhaul. Finally moving on to Source 2 much like DOTA did years ago, the game is changing. That might leave those with older hardware scared about the compatibility, so will CS2 run on the GTX 1080 Ti?

It might not seem as long ago that the GPU came out, but the GTX 1080 Ti has been around for a few years. Released in 2017, there have been a few generations of cards come out since then. With plenty of improvements to performance, rasterization, and even featuring new technologies a lot has evolved since then. Although a powerful and popular choice of its generation, it’s been surpassed by many.

You don’t need the best GPU for CS2 just yet if you’re running a GTX 1080 Ti. Paired with a good CPU, you will still be able to play the game. Although the system requirements for the game might not be out just yet, we have played the Limited Test on a 1080 Ti with great success. With the best graphics settings for the job, you can enjoy a good gaming experience on the game.

CS2 GPU requirements

Until the full CS2 release, we weren’t too sure what the actual requirements were going to be. Previously, the CSGO requirements only asked for 256MB of VRAM and with DirectX 9 support, which these days is going to be any graphics processor you might have. But now with the game fully released, we now know what the requirements are.

However, the CS2 system requirements have increased ever so slightly. We already had a couple of Source 2 games that we can look to and see what to expect. Both DOTA 2 and Half-Life Alyx are on the engine but have varying levels of spec requirements. And in fact, it’s not too devastating for your GPU requirements. As the graphics needs have increased for VRAM up to 1GB and necessary support for DirectX 11.

So if you are running a GTX 1080 Ti, don’t worry it still will run with no issues. CS hasn’t become one of those graphic-intensive games just yet like Starfield, it’s still an Esports title focused on performance.

CS2 GTX 1080 Ti performance

From our previous testing earlier in the limited test, we did run the game on our GTX 1080 Ti in fact we’ve had it running with no issues. Playing around with the settings we easily reached hundreds of FPS at 1080p, utilizing FSR does provide even more but may introduce that input latency you don’t want in the game, even though as many pro players have already stated this version seems to have even more of it from the get-go.

The performance does of course drop if you’re playing on higher resolutions, but it’s not until 4k that even on low to medium the FPS drops to 60. But not many will be playing at this level since everyone knows it is best played at the lowest res stretched. With that, the GPU offers great performance to this day.
