EA Sports FC 24 is coming in September and fans are anxious to see how the first non-FIFA title in this franchise is. Naturally, multiplayer modes like Ultimate Team and Volta Football are very popular, but historically, gamers have only been able to play with those on similar consoles.
This was a key component of the console wars which have admittedly subsided in recent memory. Will EA Sports FC 24 allow players on different platforms to engage in online play with one another?

Will EA Sports FC 24 be cross-play?
Yes, EA Sports FC 24 will be cross-play but with one key caveat. This is only the case for next-gen consoles. PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC gamers will be able to link with each other. Xbox Ones and PlayStation 4s will have to play with their consoles. That includes Nintendo Switch as well. There are restrictions that last-gen consoles unfortunately have, including not having cross-platform play.
Eventually, those older consoles will be left behind. For now, they haven’t been and can still play the game, but it is not as optimized as it is on next-gen and the cross-play availability is the biggest indicator of that. The game was announced in July, and it was very specific about the fact that the newest platform generation would have more capabilities. Crossplay functionality is one of them that current-gen players have and others do not.
EA FC 24 is crossplay for some gamers, which means any FUT online friendlies could be from a player on a variety of consoles. This is a relatively new change as consoles become more compatible with each other. The amount of potential opponents has significantly grown because of this.
Last-gen platforms will still have to play with their own, unfortunately. Doing so on new gen does require an Internet connection, though. This is still a very good part of EA Sports FC. Previous FIFA games didn’t have this.
Will EA Sports FC 24 have cross-progression?
While it will have cross-play, EA Sports FC 24 will not have cross-progression. If you happen to have multiple copies of the game on multiple platforms, such as an Xbox Series S or a PC, you can’t cloud save and pick up the game on the other platform. Your game modes, including EA Sports FC Ultimate Team (FUT), will not carry over. That means if you start playing Pro Clubs on one console, you won’t be able to pick it up on another. Career Mode, Online Friendlies, Online Seasons, and more will not cross over in that regard.
If you do need to change consoles for some reason, know that you will effectively lose everything. If you simply want to change, consider what you’d lose before deleting the files off of one console to try again on another. At the time of writing, there is no cross-progression, but that could change in the future. That is one of the major cross-play features that isn’t available, but you can still make use of this long-awaited feature. You will need an EA Account.
Be sure to get a copy and join the Bundesliga, MLS, La Liga, or Premier League, collect FUT Champions, play FUT division rivals, and take advantage of the largest pool of potential opponents in FC history.
