Since combat is a constant in Final Fantasy 16, you will need to learn how to perform maneuvers like parry and precision dodge. You will also need to master each of your abilities. One great maneuver is the deadly takedown. This guide will show you how to perform a deadly takedown in Final Fantasy 16.

Final Fantasy 16 – How to perform a deadly takedown

Deadly takedown is a special ability that you get from Garuda after you defeat her in battle. Once you have access to her abilities, you will need to focus on an enemy’s will gauge. This is the yellow bar beneath the health bar of tougher foes like minibosses and bosses.

To perform a deadly takedown, attack your opponent and lower their will gauge down to the halfway point. When the enemy stumbles from having their will partially broken, press the circle button to use the Deadly Embrace ability.

Doing this will give you a special cutscene where Clive grapples the enemy with Deadly Embrace and pulls them to the ground, dealing damage and stunning them for a brief moment. This is not as powerful as a full stagger, but it allows you to get some melee attacks in for some extra damage.

Some abilities like Wicked Wheel, Rook’s Gambit, Aerial Blast, and Windup will allow you to break an enemy’s will gauge faster than others.

Be sure to visit the Arete Stone to activate training mode if you need practice getting the deadly takedown timing down. You remember, this ability only works on larger enemies so weaker foes will be unaffected and will instead receive the normal effects of the Deadly Embrace ability.
