Madden 24 is set to hit shelves in a few weeks as the latest football sim is released to the public. The release date is expected to be in mid-August and it’s important to know what consoles it will be available on and whether it’s next-gen, last-gen, or both.
Gaming is at a crossroads, with some games being released for next-gen consoles only (such as Starfield or Spider-Man 2). If an Xbox One user was looking forward to Madden 24, they’d need to know if it was available on that platform at all.

Will Madden 24 be released on next-gen consoles only?
Madden 24 will not leap to be a next-gen exclusive. Xbox One and PlayStation 4 owners can breathe a sigh of relief. EA’s latest game will be available on those platforms as well as Steam, PC, and the next-gen consoles.
There will, however, be some features that are exclusive to next-gen consoles. Games that are developed now are often done so with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in mind. Those consoles have capabilities that older ones simply do not.
For example, next-gen versions of Madden 24, with cover athlete Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills, are going to be crossplay. PlayStation 5 players can play with a PC, but Xbox One gamers can’t join a game with a PlayStation 4. The game is not available on Nintendo Switch, so they can’t either.
Various other changes for next-gen Madden gamers include a refined AI system. Since the consoles are stronger, they can program the CPUs more. This is most notable in Madden 24’s passing and the AI catching system. The new FieldSENSE and SAPIEN technology are two new features that have been added to next-gen. Finally, the game will generally run better on the new consoles since they’re newer and far more powerful.
Superstar Showdown is new in Madden 24, but it is not on last-gen consoles. Superstar mode replaced Face of the Franchise for newer consoles. The gameplay doesn’t differ all that much, except the smarter AI and improved realism on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Deluxe Edition of Madden NFL and every other game mode is on both generations. The PC version of Madden is considered next-gen.
As gaming shifts towards next-gen, or current-gen, consoles with every passing day, the day is coming when last-gen video game platforms won’t be able to get new games like Madden 24. That day, fortunately, is not today, though. When it does come, you’ll have to upgrade your gameplay system and perhaps ignore previous generations of consoles. Right now, there are no exclusive gameplay features on next-gen, other than Superstar mode which is not on last-gen.
