When Madden 24 finally releases later this year, whether by early access (by pre-order of a deluxe edition) or not, players on a variety of consoles and platforms will be able to play the latest entry in EA Sports’ football franchise. Will the PS4 be one of them?
With the rise of next-gen consoles, older versions like the Xbox One or PlayStation 4 are being slowly phased out. Eventually, game developers, including EA, will no longer make games compatible with them. Has that day come for Madden 24 and the PS4?

Will Madden 24 be on PS4?
Madden 24 will, in fact, be available on the PS4. For now, the last-gen consoles have not been phased out. Some games, like Spider-Man 2 and Marvel’s Wolverine, are going to come out this year and be exclusive to the PlayStation 5. Madden 24 is not, though.
That is not to say that the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions of the game are the exact same as there will be some variation. On the contrary, next-gen consoles will have access to features that the PS4 does not. The biggest one is perhaps the introduction of crossplay, which will unfortunately not be possible on the PlayStation 4. Those gamers can’t play head-to-head with PC or Xbox Series X since that is a current-gen feature.
Smarter AI systems, improved FieldSense and Sapien Technology and more will also not be available. The PlayStation 4 is simply not as powerful and does not have as many capabilities as the PlayStation 5 and this year’s game, which has alternate versions, reflects that.
Why wouldn’t Madden 24 come to PS4?
Given that EA Sports likely wants to keep as wide of an audience as possible, it is possible that the PS4 will have Madden NFL 24, which has Buffalo Bills star Josh Allen on the cover, and a couple of future installments before they phase the console out completely.
Despite not being totally optimized on the PS4, there will be a deluxe edition for both consoles as well as a cheaper standard edition. Each game mode will be on the PlayStation 4, they just might operate differently. The gameplay will also not differ much, though some features to make it smoother are not on the PS4. All new cities and uniforms for franchise mode and created players on offense and defense are available on both platforms.
