Madden 24 is headed for shelves and digital downloads in the next three weeks. Slated for a mid-August release, the latest title from EA Sports’ football franchise has fans buzzing with anticipation. Naturally, they’re excited to play as Patrick Mahomes, Nick Bosa, Justin Jefferson, and others, but there’s also a lot of excitement for creating their own avatar.

In recent years, Madden introduced facial recognition software that allowed players to scan their faces for their avatars. The customization on those avatars is very strong with this franchise, but will those avatars be able to have tattoos?

Can I get tattoos in Madden 24?

As of now, it doesn’t appear as if tattoos will be part of Madden 24. The game has faced an interesting legal challenge regarding tattoos. They previously had some that they later removed because they had “concerns about copyrights”.

Given that an artist made whatever tattoo they’re putting in the game, there’s a slight possibility that they will object to having their work used in the game. As a result, Madden NFL appears to be ignoring that part of the game to avoid any theoretical litigation.

Based on early screenshots of the game, there’s no indication that existing players that have tattoos have them in the game. EA Sports once advised athletes to secure copyright protections for their tattoos, but it doesn’t appear as if that has happened yet. The players look like they do in real life, just without ink.

For now, the answer is no, there are no tattoos in the game. There used to be generic tattoos that could be applied to created players, but that may not be the case anymore, either. In 2015, they brought back tattoos for Colin Kaepernick alone, but to avoid lawsuits, they’re not in the game right now.
