Who are the best running backs in Madden NFL 24?
Here’s the top 10 list of halfbacks in Madden NFL 24. Honorable mentions include Kenneth Walker III, Alvin Kamara, Dalvin Cook, Jamaal Williams, Miles Sanders, Jahmyr Gibbs, and Atlanta Falcons’ rookie Bijan Robinson, who comes in as the top newcomer overall:
- Joe Mixon – 87 OVR
- Tony Pollard – 88 OVR
- Aaron Jones – 88 OVR
- Jonathan Taylor – 89 OVR
- Austin Ekeler – 89 OVR
- Saquon Barkley – 93 OVR
- Derrick Henry – 94 OVR
- Josh Jacobs – 95 OVR
- Christian McCaffrey – 96 OVR
- Nick Chubb – 97 OVR
Below we’ll go over each player in detail.
10) Joe Mixon – 87 OVR
Joe Mixon gets lost in a Cincinnati Bengals offense with Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase, but he’s one of the best backs in the league. The 87 overall HB can run with the best of them and will score a lot of touchdowns. He doesn’t get a lot of receptions, but he doesn’t need to do that to be one of the best in the game. He’s reliable and dependable, as he rarely misses significant time.
9) Tony Pollard – 88 OVR
Tony Pollard is a good runner, a good receiver, and a good return man. He isn’t the best of the best at all three, but he is very good at each aspect, which makes him a well-rounded running back. He could get even better as he is now the featured back with the Dallas Cowboys. His speed rating is strong, so it should make him a useful player in Madden.
8) Aaron Jones – 88 OVR
Not many running backs score touchdowns as Aaron Jones does. He was the lone bright spot on a struggling Green Bay Packers offense last year and he’ll likely be the same again this year. Even with a defensive focus on him, he excels. His place on the RB ratings is more than deserved. He’ll likely be the focal point in Green Bay, so expect this rating to get even better.
7) Jonathan Taylor – 89 OVR
After ascending to the top of the game the year before with the Indianapolis Colts, Jonathan Taylor was pretty rough last year. What’s the accurate ranking for Taylor? Somewhere in the middle, which is where his 89 overall in Madden 24 falls. He could go off once again, but an 89 is a great rating regardless. He will be a big help to rookie QB Anthony Richardson, so you can expect this 89 to improve.
6) Austin Ekeler – 89 OVR
Los Angeles Chargers back Austin Ekeler is about as good as any running back when it comes to routes and catching passes out of the backfield. His rushing abilities when it’s obvious running down or situation leave a little to be desired, but his big-play ability and dual-threat nature make him a great Madden halfback. Running a screen play to him is almost a cheat code.
5) Saquon Barkley – 93 OVR
People may have forgotten, thanks to bad New York Giants offensive linemen and some injuries, that Saquon Barkley is an elite running back. He was selected second overall in the NFL Draft and he proved that he was worth that pick last season. He’s on a one-year deal this year, so he’s probably out to prove that fact once more in 2024.
4) Derrick Henry – 94 OVR
Derrick Henry might get washed out by flashier runners, but there is no more consistent back in the NFL than he. Everyone on the opposing defense knows he’s getting the ball and it does not matter. Even if they somehow get to the Tennessee Titans back early, the first few players seldom tackle him. He is the strongest runner and the most difficult to tackle, so it doesn’t matter if he doesn’t catch passes. In Madden 24, he is perhaps the most difficult player to stop in open space. Henry, naturally, is an X Factor player.
3) Josh Jacobs – 95 OVR
In a contract year, Josh Jacobs had the best season he’s ever had. He led the league in rushing and was a focal point for a Las Vegas Raiders offense that was otherwise somewhat disappointing. Simply put, he was one of the best backs in the league, and that forced his Madden 24 rating to skyrocket. Now, he’s an X Factor and dominant player in the game.
2) Christian McCaffrey – 96 OVR
Christian McCaffrey is the most explosive dual-threat running back in the game with the San Francisco 49ers (and was with the Carolina Panthers pre-trade). If he committed to solely rushing the ball, he’d be one of the league’s best backs. If he transitioned to wide receiver and ran routes all day, he would be a top wide receiver, too. He’s that good at both aspects of the game and that’s extremely useful in Madden. McCaffrey is an X Factor in Madden 24.
1) Nick Chubb – 97 OVR
Nick Chubb has been an absolute standout for the Cleveland Browns. The halfback doesn’t excel in the passing game like some other running backs, but he is as smooth a rusher as there is in the NFL. He’s also one of the X Factors in the position. He will record 150 yards and a touchdown without much difficulty as long as the Browns give him the ball, giving him the top running back ratings in Madden.
