The newest iteration of the Madden NFL series is finally here. The most iconic of football simulation games, Madden NFL 24, featuring Buffalo Bills star Josh Allen on the cover, lets players build their dream team and become champions.
From how to celebrate to taking a knee, there’s plenty to do not only in all modes but in the Madden Ultimate Team mode, as well. In MUT, you’ll level up your players to become better and dominate the field. You can even upgrade the team captain.

How to upgrade the team captain in Ultimate Team (MUT)
In the Team Captains Field Pass, there are four 80 overall MUT Team Captains that you can get:
- HB Frank Gore: Level 2
- C Kevin Mawae: Level 4
- CB Ronde Barber: Level 6
- SS Eric Berry: Level 8
These players can be upgraded up to 85 OVR at maximum at launch date. Eventually, that will change as Madden often increases captain overall limits to the upper 90s. These players do not come from packs.
In order to upgrade team captain in MUT mode, here’s what you need to do:
- Navigate to the aforementioned Field Pass
- Complete objectives listed there with your captain to earn Team Captain Upgrade Tokens
- Select your captain and head to Upgrades after collecting the required amount of tokens
- Use Team Captain Upgrade Tokens to upgrade your team captain
To progress the Team Captain to its maximum of 85 overall right now, you need five tokens from milestones and challenges. Team captains can be in a variety of positions, including wide receiver (WR), quarterback (QB), and more.
This will progress your team captain and allow them to upgrade. Take note that there are different tiers of missions to collect stars in, and the higher the tier, the more stars you’ll earn. These team captain challenges are the only way to upgrade your team captain in the game. You can turn them into pretty good players, although there is a limit. They can’t become the best cards in the game, but they are good ones to have to start that can grow with your squad.
What do you get when upgrading team captain in Madden 24?
Upgrading your team captain will improve their attributes and OVR, or overall rating. This means better performance overall, which will get you even more rewards by winning in the MUT game mode. Most MUT cards cannot be upgraded in this fashion, which makes captains very valuable.
There’s a roster of team captains to choose from, each with their own strengths. It’s up to you which one you want to upgrade most.
Madden 24 is available from August 18 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC platforms for all players and sports fans to enjoy.
