There’s plenty of hype surrounding the newest Call of Duty game already. With Call of Duty Modern Warfare III on its way for CoD fans everywhere, it can be a bit overwhelming with all the new content.

MWIII is pulling out all the big guns to get fans excited, including the return of Zombies mode and plenty of other gameplay to enjoy as soon as the game releases. But if you just got into Warzone or Modern Warfare II, the launch can be a bit much.

Why is MWIII coming out so soon when MWII just came out last year? We’re here to give you all the information you need.

Why is MW3 releasing so soon?

The reason why Activision is already coming out with another Call of Duty game relatively close to the release of the current one is because the series receives a new game yearly. With the exception of skipping 2004 after the release of the very first CoD, the franchise has gotten a new title every year since 2003.

Since MWII was the release for 2022, a new game for 2023 was expected to happen. MWIII is that CoD 2023 game.

Will MW3 replace MW2?

In a way, yes. MWIII will be the new Call of Duty game receiving all the updates, new content, and attention come the release date in November. However, MWII will not completely shut down. In fact, much of the content you’ve earned from MWII will transfer over to MWIII.

But there is plenty of reason to be excited about the latest CoD. Since the reveal trailer in August, fans have been treated to info and several leaks about the content coming with MWIII:

  • Weapons
  • Multiplayer Maps like Quarry, Karachi, Rust, and more
  • Open Combat Missions
  • Early Access
  • Open Beta
  • Game Modes
  • Classic Minimap return

And a ton more. MWII will not be the focus for Activision after the full release of MWIII, so while you don’t have to upgrade, we’d highly recommend it.

MWIII, the latest entry in the Call of Duty franchise, is coming to all consoles and platforms, including Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC.
