NBA 2K24: Can you change takeover?

NBA 2K24 has revamped the takeover system. In an effort to mirror a real-life NBA player getting into the zone and becoming rather unstoppable, they’ve introduced and tinkered with a takeover system that allows your players to get into the zone. This, for example, could give you a significant boost in playmaking, three-point shooting, on-ball defense, and more. Can you change what takeover you get?
Can I change my takeover in NBA 2K24?
No, you can’t change the takeover in NBA 2K24 in the traditional sense. In NBA 2K23, you could earn takeover badges and use those to control what takeover you had. If you wanted one focused on rebounds, you could get badges for that. That’s no longer the case for 2K24, just like how you can’t change your build.
However, this is not a restrictive change. In fact, it gives players more control over their takeover. Instead of grinding to get a certain one, you have access to multiple. Once you fill up the takeover meter by doing the required tasks, you can select one of five categories of takeover:
- Finishing
- Shooting
- Playmaking
- Defense/Rebounding
- Physicals
The menu for these takeovers will come up on-screen as soon as your MyPLAYER has done what it needs to to get in the zone. This could be hitting or taking certain shots, collecting enough rebounds, forcing a few misses, or anything. Generally, it will happen organically.
Once you’re in that menu, the following takeover icons and buttons translate to the category for the new takeovers:
- Finishing – Checkered Flag (A on Xbox, Cross on PlayStation)
- Shooting – Sniper (X on Xbox, Square on PlayStation)
- Playmaking – Basketball Comet (Y on Xbox, Triangle on PlayStation)
- Defense – Shield (LB on Xbox, L1 on PlayStation)
- Physical – Hand with Dumbbell (RB on Xbox, R1 on PlayStation)
The new takeover system doesn’t allow you to change your own takeover and attributes, but it does allow you to choose the takeover abilities you want in real-time. Your player’s abilities don’t really affect it during the game. Select one to enact takeover activation and enjoy the advantages.
