Are you tired of having a bounty in Starfield? When you have a bounty, guards will stop you on the street and bounty hunters will track you down. Sure this will net you some extra XP, but it gets tiring traveling to planets and dealing with extra threats.

If you have played a Bethesda Game Studios title before, you know that bounties are a normal thing. Committing crimes like stealing or murder will result in you getting a heavy fine for all of your stolen goods. Doing this will result in more combat as you try to avoid bounty hunters.

There are some factions in Starfield that may require you to perform illegal acts. You must be prepared for the consequences by getting rid of your legendary weapon and heading to jail. Of course, there are more ways to clear your name. Here is how to clear your bounty in Starfield.

How to remove your bounty in Starfield

In Starfield, you need to visit a self-service bounty clearance terminal. This is how you can clear or pay your bounty. All of these methods can be used to clear your name as well:

  • Jail Time
  • Pay off Bounty
  • Bribe a Guard
  • Mods

Each of these methods will clear your name and, as a bonus, you may even get to keep some of the stolen goods in your possession that you got from being a sneaky pickpocket. Each of these methods apply if you are playing on PC or Xbox. Keep in mind that many companions will complain about you receiving a bounty.

Let’s break down each of these options so you know if bribery, paying off your bounty, or spending some time in jail is best for you.

Jail Time

If you are a wanted criminal, it won’t be difficult to find a guard. Odds are on will come to you if you have committed serious crimes. Whether it is a New Atlantis, Neon, or Akila City guard, you will typically get stopped in the streets or at the spaceport.

When talking to a guard, select the “don’t worry, I’ll go quietly” option. This will lead to going directly to join. If it is your first time, you might even get a side quest that involves infiltrating the Crimson Fleet.

Pay Off Bounty

Your second choice is to simply pay off your bounty if you have enough credits for it. This can be done by talking to a guard as well. You will see an option to pay the fine directly to the guard. If there is no guard available, you can typically find bounty-clearance kiosks inside bars in the game’s major cities.

Keep in mind that you cannot use a kiosk in an area controlled by the faction that put the bounty on you. For instance, if the United Colonies put a bounty on your head, you need to travel to a planet that they don’t control. Planets like Cydonia are under control of the United Colonies and must be avoided. Check your starmap to see where you can go.

Bribery

If you are a great negotiator, you can use your negotiation skill to clear your name by giving the guards a bribe. Not all guards can be paid off but ones in more, unfavorable parts of town, will allow you to pay them to take that bounty off your hands. Next time, just don’t get caught pickpocketing or breaking into buildings with digipicks.

Mods

Mods can be used to get rid of a bounty just like console commands. Mods will allow you to clear your name or not receive a bounty to begin with. Of course, this comes with a bit of risk as some mods will crash your game. Be sure to be careful when modding Starfield.
