How to set up an outpost in Starfield

To build an outpost in Starfield, all you need to do is land on a habitable planet. After that, open your scanner with the F key on PC or the LB button on Xbox Series X/S. With your scanner opened, find a place to set down your outpost beacon and press the R key or the X button to place the beacon.

Having the beacon placed will allow you to start building an outpost. Interact with your outpost, and you will be able to begin placing structures. Many structures in Starfield require the use of materials like Iron, Tungsten, Copper, and Aluminum. Be sure to have these materials on your person before attempting to build.

There are some simple controls when building an outpost in Starfield:

  • Navigate Menu Z and C keys or LB and RB

What is an outpost in Starfield?

Outposts in Starfield are structures that players can build on different planets and moons. These structures serve purposes like gathering materials and fuel, upgrading your ship or spacesuit, or even raising money to purchase items and upgrades.

Based on the various trailers, we have seen items like extractors, outpost airlock, wind turbines, and hydroponic gardens. Once you enter build mode, there is a lot that you can place down as long as you have the materials required to do so.
