Sometimes you need to get rid of an outpost. While you might just want to move to a new location, maybe the star system you chose doesn’t have what you need. There are plenty of places to build an outpost but not all of them are created equal. Keep this in mind before entering build mode.

After you’ve built a base, sometimes it doesn’t work out, even if it’s on the best planet to build one on. But, deleting an outpost can be difficult if you don’t know where to begin.

Maybe you aren’t a fan of the scenery of the planet you chose like Earth. After all, there are many desolate planets out there. No matter the reason, it is nice to be able to delete or remove your post. This guide will show you how to delete an outpost in Starfield.

How to delete an outpost in Starfield

Deleting an outpost is simple, all you need to do is:

  • Head to the Main Outpost Beacon you used to set up the base
  • Hold the Remove Outpost button (X Button on Xbox Series X|S, R Key on PC)
  • Confirm the removal of the outpost

This will remove the outpost and everything you’ve built in it, including the outpost buildings, outpost modules, and more. You can continue on to build a new outpost elsewhere. Keep in mind that the button or key must be held as pressing it will simply allow you to rename the outpost.

What does deleting an outpost do in Starfield?

This will permanently delete the outpost, and you will not be able to set it back up. You can, of course, build a new outpost on the same planet or moon, but the variety of buildings you’ve set up will be gone for good. Make sure deleting the base is what you want to do, so you can set up on another spot.

It’s also important to note that when you delete an outpost, you will not be refunded the resources it took to build it. This is to deter players from constantly setting up new outposts and wasting additional resources. Of course, you can also use console commands to get the resources back if you don’t mind missing out on achievements.

We recommend choosing a spot with the proper resources, with plenty of minerals and gasses, as well as hospitable environments without extreme pressure, extreme gravity, or corrosive atmospheres to set up the optimal location outpost. You can make some tremendous bases, but continually setting up and removing outposts and other such mistakes can deplete your resources quickly and leave you dry.
