Blizzard is bringing fans back to Sanctuary in the newest release for the hellish Diablo series, Diablo IV. Because the open world is bleak and dangerous, you’re going to want to have friends to travel with. Defeating monsters, demons, and other enemies is all a part of the fun, but if you’re not sure whether you should do it with a clan or party, we’re here to let you know the difference between the two.

Diablo 4 – Clan vs Party

While both systems are meant for friendly co-op in Diablo IV, they do serve different purposes.

Clans are meant for a collective group of players that repeatedly team up to take on the dark world of Sanctuary together. Clans will have the ability to:

  • Name themselves
  • Have a clan description with things like goals and activities
  • Can send out daily messages to each other
  • Can create a banner

Many clans link social media to their groups so they can communicate even outside the game.

Clans are best for long term groupings, and many people add their real life friends to their clans to stay together even if they’re not playing at the same time. Clans can have up to 150 members.

Parties, on the other hand, are more short term groupings for random players to team up and join together to complete an objective. It will get you bonus EXP playing with a party, so even just partying up with any other players is helpful.

Parties don’t have names, banners, or any other identifiers besides being labeled as in a party together, so it comes with much less of the fanfare. Parties can also only have up to four members, much smaller than clans, so they don’t tend to last nearly as long.

Both multiplayer options have different purposes and strengths for battling through the hack and slash world of Diablo IV, so now that you know both of them, you can play co-op effectively.
