Blizzard’s popular hack and slash series Diablo releases its newest entry in the franchise, Diablo 4, June 6. Bloody, grim, and full of demons, this series has been a long standing favorite and fans have been eagerly awaiting the newest title. With brand new lore to soak up, many are wondering when Diablo 4 takes place. Where is Diablo 4 in the timeline? Let’s find out.

When does Diablo 4 take place in the timeline?

Diablo 4 will be the latest in the timeline, making it a sequel to the previous entry Diablo 3. The game takes place roughly 50 years after the events of Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls, where the world of Sanctuary has had the majority of its population slaughtered by the war between the High Heavens and the Burning Hells after the destruction of the Black Soulstone.

The game will see the return of Lilith, the daughter of Mephisto, one of the three Prime Evils, has seen the power vacuum left in the wars’ wake and wants to fill it herself. Her hatred will destroy all of humankind if you don’t stop her.

The game revolves around chasing down Lilith and stopping her from killing the rest of Sanctuary.

Here is the full order of the Diablo series in terms of timeline:

  • Diablo
  • Diablo II
  • Diablo Immortal
  • Diablo III
  • Diablo IV

Diablo 4 will continue the story of Sanctuary as latest in the timeline, after the events of Reaper of Souls and all previous games.

Diablo 4 lets players hack and slash through a dark world filled with monsters to kill, and amazing loot to obtain. Five different classes; Druid, Rogue, Necromancer, Barbarian, and Sorceress, will be available for players to choose from, adding even more customization to their character for a truly unique gameplay experience.
