There have been multiple dark Zelda titles over the years with some of the most prominent being Majora’s Mask and Twilight Princess. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom could follow a similar trend to previous dark titles in the Zelda series.

Despite being one of the more lighthearted games of the series, Breath of the Wild was a game that astounded many. Since Tears of the Kingdom is a direct sequel, there need to be some serious changes to have Link complete the hero’s journey once more. So will The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom be dark? If so, how dark will it get?

How dark will The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom be?

From the many trailers that have been released about Tears of the Kingdom, it appears that it will be one of the darker Zelda games. Breath of the Wild ended on a strong note with you defeating Calamity Ganon. After finding what seems to be the withered corpse of Calamity Ganon, he rises once more as Demon King Ganondorf.

Based on the trailers, the skies of Hyrule will be blanketed in darkness from the rising of Demon King Ganon, leading to the fall of Link, the destruction of the Master Sword, and the possible corruption of Link’s arm. Hyrule Castle is no more. Did we mention that Zelda could possibly be dead?

There are many theories that state Zelda will actually be dead throughout the events of the Breath of the Wild sequel. This would make sense based on the game’s name and the shots of the trailer that show Zelda plummeting into darkness.

These shots hint at this adventure being on the darker side when it comes to the story. Exploration, on the other hand, seems to be a bit more lighthearted. The gameplay seems more reminiscent of games like Skyward Sword with the floating sky islands and Wind Waker.

Tears of the Kingdom will see Link without the Sheikah Slate and will instead of a new item called the Ultrahand. This item seems to come about after the Master Sword becomes corrupted. Link’s new abilities include Ascend, Fuse, and Recall which let him alter the world around him and traverse it with ease.

The epic adventure is sure to be one of the more powerful Zelda titles. It will have Link battling malevolent forces with various new weapons not seen before. Based on gameplay footage, combat will be the same as Breath of the Wild and we will possibly see the return of dungeons.

Zelda fans are undoubtedly excited for the launch of Tears of the Kingdom which is releasing on the Nintendo Switch very soon. Be sure to pre-load the game if you haven’t already so you are prepared.
