Did MSI’s 4060 Ti 16GB benchmarks put the final nail in the coffin?
Is this why Nvidia was withholding any benchmarks and reviews?

In its live testing of the new GPU, MSI ran some basic game benchmarks on its new Gaming X Slim 16GB model. This rough testing has given us a first look at the performance of the $500 GPU, and what it shows is quite embarrassing and in fact, achieves framerates lower than the cheaper 8GB model.
As TechPowerUp reported, MSI hosted its Insider live stream on the 19th of July. There it benchmarked the new RTX 4060 Ti that was released the day before, even though the paper launch was very quiet and made us question its existence. Especially since reports emerged that the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB was not getting review seeding and had no pre-release driver to even test it out and so it didn’t have any reviews about it.
Now that it has launched, although looking at stock when trying to buy the card you might think otherwise, the driver is live and you can use the card. As such MSI gave us a glimpse into what it can achieve in terms of performance, comparing it to the 8GB model.
These tests aren’t extensive and we still wait for proper reviewers to get hands-on and put it through its paces for much more in-depth overview. In four out of the six games, the 16GB averages a lower frame rate. In CyberPunk with Ultra Ray Tracing it is just under 1 FPS less, in F1 2023 it gets two less, and Rainbow Six averages four less. The last few are closer or win out over the low-memory option. Where CS:GO averages 26 more FPS, in Fortnite at the same 100 mark and in Hogwarts Legacy, they achieve the same 95-100 FPS.
This is quite surprising, as the card comes with a $100 higher MSRP, you’d expect some performance improvements. Yet here it doesn’t even gain 25% in any title so far to match the price increase. But we should take this with some grain of salt as it isn’t a comprehensive test with multiple runs or many games and it can still change when others do these. Although we’re not sure it can gain that much more.
