Does Nvidia’s RTX 4080 Super launch spell the end for the poor RTX 4080?
Is the non-Super RTX 4080 still worth your time? Discounts may help

The RTX 4080 Super has already been announced by Nvidia alongside the rest of their 40 series Super line-up (so far) and it looks to be a suitable replacement for the not-so-loved RTX 4080 which hit shelves towards the end of 2022. With the new card boasting a lower price tag and marginal performance increases, the RTX 4080 may become irrelevant to most of us.
Not every GPU launch warrants an upgrade for you. If you’ve already got an RTX 4080, then don’t go tossing it away in favor of the Super edition. However, we don’t see too many reasons to go for the older card once the 4080 Super is here. If you’re interested in claiming one for yourself, don’t miss our where to buy RTX 4080 Super page.
We tend to see big discounts come through whenever a hardware’s successor comes along, so that’s where we place our hopes in scoring the powerful 4080 for cheap. But it may be a hard ask if all focus is shifted towards the Super.

RTX 4080 Super is cheaper than RTX 4080
You may have already heard about the pricing of the RTX 4080 Super. If not, then you’re in for a treat. The non-Super edition of the card has an MSRP of $1,199 – which has proven far too much for many people’s liking.
The good news though is that the RTX 4080 Super has had its MSRP slashed down to $999, and that comes with all the performance improvements as well. This is for the Founders Edition of the GPU available directly from Nvidia; custom models will still vary in price.
However, given the lower recommended price of the newer card, we can only imagine that the existing RTX 4080 listings out there will have to crash in price. Though it may not be enough to sway buyers in the long run. For more details on these two, check out our RTX 4080 Super vs RTX 4080 piece.
Does the RTX 4080 Super replace the 4080?
As we can see from the RTX 4080 Super specs, the new card packs more punch. Not by too much, but the lower price tag for the Founders Edition is enticing and makes up for the abysmal pricing of the original. We expect the Super to replace the non-Super card on Nvidia’s own store, which leaves us with just custom AIBs or second-hand shopping when looking for the vanilla 4080 in future.
With the 4080 now becoming less relevant, big discounts may come into play as retailers look to rid more stock to instead focus their attention on the 4080 Super. At least, that’s what we expect to see.
