If the iPhone SE 4 does release, we think it’ll likely hit the market around March-April. But that being said, whether it’ll release in 2024 or 2025 is still unknown.

Apple doesn’t follow an annual release window like the main line iPhone, however they tend to favor a Springtime release for the SE models. This becomes obvious once you look at the release dates of previous iPhone SE variants:

The iPhone SE’s first generation was launched in 2016, and the second generation was launched after four years in 2020. However, the third generation was launched only after two years, in 2022.

Will there be an iPhone SE 4?

The last entry-level iPhone, the iPhone SE, was launched in 2022 with limited new advancements. However, the aging design and minimal upgrades weren’t well-received. Amid the disappointing sales, a rumor was going around that Apple had decided to end the iPhone SE line entirely as they did with the iPhone Mini last year.

Previously, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, it was reported that Apple may have restarted the iPhone SE 4 project, and it was coming with a few new features and a complete design overhaul. Recently, there have been rumours that the iPhone SE 4 may be delayed, or not coming at all.

According to analyst Jeff Pu, we could be waiting till 2025 to see the next iteration. However, it looks like Ming-Chi Kuo thinks the SE 4 is not part of Apple’s new product planning for 2024 or 2025, as per his tweet on April 14th.

The latest rumor from the analyst Ming-Chi Kuo states Apple is moving forward with the 6.1-inch OLED display for the iPhone SE 4. Design and features are expected to resemble the base model iPhone 14.

The SE 4 will feature a notch but not the Face ID. It would be wired, but Kuo and the Chinese tech site MyDrivers have claimed that Apple will shift the Touch ID sensor to the Power button like the 10th gen iPad.

According to the leaked render by Ian Zelco, the iPhone SE 4 will feature a single camera on the back. It will probably be the same 12MP wide-angle lens. The SE 4 could feature an enhanced A15 Bionic chip or the newer A16 chip depending on the release window.

Interestingly, the SE  could be the first iPhone to feature Apple’s own 5G modem. According to Kuo, the baseband chip will be manufactured with a 4nm process and support only sub-6GHz bands.

The iPhone 13 and 14 series have moved on to base variants of 128GB, and the same is expected for the upcoming iPhone SE. Frankly, 64GB of storage isn’t enough. We are hopeful Apple will recognize this issue. Unfortunately, the new 10th gen iPad still comes with a base variant of 64 GB.

The iPhone SE 3rd generation has a slight price hike compared to the model it replaced. However, it is unlikely that we will see the same with the upcoming model. Apple has increased the cost of making the iPhone SE 4 with its complete design overhaul to make the model desirable. Also, the base variant offered a measly amount of storage.
