Cobblestone or cbble, doesn’t need an introduction for most Counter Strike fans, however, it is older than most of the games current player base, so it may be worth a bit of a refresher. Cobblestone is a classic map that first appeared as a beta (there were many) in the original game. The map remained largely untouched until the release of CSS and the new Source Engine, where it had a graphical overhaul and textural alterations, however, the layout remained the same. As an active map in the community, Cobblestone was ported to CSGO in 2013 where the map once again received an overhaul. Again graphics was the main update, however this time around the physical map and how it played was changed.

Later, Cobblestone received some major changes, which was met with mixed reception in the CS community that has left a sour taste for many. This was amplified further with its complete removal from the competitive map pool. In fairness, the removal from the map pool was probably the right call, however, any news on development or a return has been few and far between over the last few years.

Cobblestone returning for CS2 would be fantastic

Aside from cbble holding a special place in many hearts, a complete rework of this classic would be an excellent addition to the new game. Looking at current map overhauls has shown just what Source 2 can do and the old castle map would no doubt look stunning. While it would be great fun to play again, would the map fit back into the active pool in its current state? Probably not, it was a bit plain -jane after the last major update, however, a rework could easily revive it.

There have been rumors around Source 2 for years, however, it all heated up around a year ago with speculation around maps with _s2 at the end. De_cbble_s2 was indeed one of them but this all died down like very other bit of speculation at that time. Since, we have had the glorious Counter Strike 2 announcement bringing along the Source 2 Engine upgrade, which as mentioned looks superb.

We can’t say with certainty that Cobblestone is coming to CS2 and have to admit we got a little excited by the recent dragon graffiti tease from Valve but surely this will return? Saying cbble will come to CS2 feels like a no brainer but whether or not it makes it for the launch is another story. Devs have already updated Dust 2, Mirage, Nuke, and Overpass. Inferno looks like it will be joining the party soon too. The main focus will no doubt be the active duty maps first but we wait in bated breath for the return of Cobblestone.
