Here’s how you can address the ‘Checking for Update’ issue in MW2:

To eliminate the ‘Checking for Update’ message, you need to delete the contents of the game’s Main folder. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Open your Steam library and find Modern Warfare 2.
2. Right-click on the game and select ‘Manage’.
3. Choose ‘Browse local files’ and open the ‘main’ folder.
4. Delete all the contents of the folder.
5. Right-click on Modern Warfare 2 again, choose ‘Properties’, select the ‘Local Files’ category, and click on ‘Verify integrity of game files’. This will reinstall the deleted files, fixing the ‘Checking for Update’ problem.

Unfortunately, console players cannot use this solution. Instead, they should check their connection to the game’s servers, as a faulty link can cause this issue. Restarting both the game and the router may also help resolve this error.
